Badges? We don't need no stinking Badges!

Not ripping on you, I just find it funny you put it that way. Personally, the act itself, if it was only one badge for GA pilots, wouldn't bother me in the slightest. What really blasts me over the edge is the principle of it!

Don't get me wrong - I'm against anything that's going to cost me money. I agree with you guys, multiple badges is F-tarded ... but I'm not convinced that GA pilots having, at the very least a photo ID (such as if we were to put photos on our licenses) is such a bad thing. And even if I have to wear a badge on the flight line - I guess I'm not as riled up as you guys about the principal of it. Just doesn't bother me as much as some stuff.

Come on folks, you know if terrorists get ahold of a Cessna 150, and they're able to successfully knock down a soccer goal at your local school where your children play, you're going to thank the TSA for it's vigilance to airport security.

Just you wait.

We already have to! That is what is so absurd about this.

The problem that I have with it is the multiple badges. I should not have to have more than my pilot certificate, ONE airport badge, and my company ID. The problem with trying to put a picture on the ID is that now the pilot certificate has to be reissued every so often because you physical appearance does not stay the same over time. Yes, I said it. If you have a stressful job the hair may go gray faster than some people or if people dye their hair they could look completely different from one day to the next.

I understand that we have to already carry a state issued ID, probably the problem that the TSA supposedly has is that it is state issued and not federally issued. Don't know, don't wanna know. But state issued ID' vary just as much some times. When I worked on a base I had to get a new ID every year because they were paranoid about security. Could you imagine trying to get all 400,000 pilots in the US an ID EVERY YEAR! I wouldn't want to, every couple of years at the most! Still sucks and wonder when people will actually pull their heads out of their @** and think about real security training as opposed to what we have now.

If we really wanted security we would pay the baggage handlers and everybody else around an airport more than minimum wage. Why, because then they would actually try to take their job seriously. Right now, I don't see the security at an airport changing much from what it already is. At big airports, espically on the GA side, it's pretty much already secure. At the small airports, the GA side is almost always going to be more secure because you and I know how people should act around an airport and if we see something that doesn't seem right, we'll report it.

Just my $0.02.

Can I get a mooslim terrorist to come steal my plane and wreck it so I don't have to maintain it anymore? It would be a kind of jihadist bailout for the private plane owners community

The problem I have is that the cost for me to get a badge comes out of my own pocket. Before you know it, they are going to nickle and dime us until they make GA unaffordable.

The FBO next door hates them so much they put a sign up next to the ramp door that said "NO TERRORIST OR TSA BEOND THIS POINT" The TSA was not too happy about that. They fined the FBO and made them take it down.

On what grounds? What legal authority do they have to force someone to take that sign down?

Any attorneys want to let me know?

That's when you say, "Fine, comrade, what's it going to cost" then you notify the front desk of the hotel that you've been shaken-down by the police and your money will usually be back in hand the next day.

Boy, if only we had a system in place where pilots were required to carry something that showed they were a pilot, and therefore should have access to the flightline. You know, like a pilot certificate. And then, since the pilot certificate doesn't have a picture on it, we could make them carry a piece of government-issued photo ID to prove that the pilot certificate really goes with them.

Waaaaaait a minute....

Your display of rational thought has disqualified you from future consideration for government work. :D

I have an early 90s issue of FLYING that had a short article about a prototype for ::gasp:: a pilot certificate that incorporated a photo amongst other security features. Made too much sense back then too I guess.

I say we make some buttons and put um on our flight bags, wear um to the airport, whatever

They can say :We don't need no stinking Badges" and have this picture

can be made fairly cheaply
what do you think Dough?

Well its official, as of June 1st, we need the badges. Students and transient pilot's are exempt.

dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb

My question is, if you see someone on the ramp w/o a badge, how do you know if they are a terrorist or a transient pilot, besides the turban of course. :sarcasm:

The secretary made a badge for here dog today. He wore it around the office. it was funny.
