Badges? We don't need no stinking Badges!

I thought it was just one badge if you flew into or out of fields serviced by airlines. If that's the case, who cares? I'm not going to get in a hissy about having to wear a badge or carry one with me. In fact, as an aircraft owner, I kinda like the idea.

You can go through the crew line at the checkpoint in the airline terminal by flashing your badge. Helps a ton on those busy days.

It's not just one badge. If I fly from Memphis to St. Louis. The TSA wants me to have an airport ID badge for both Memphis and St. Louis. So if I were a corporate pilot then they would want me to have an ID chain around my neck worse than most jet engines.

Who cares if it is just one badge?? It is the principle of the matter.

If we as pilots and aircraft owners are going to be required to wear badges to access our equipment, then it should be done on our terms, not the terms of some stupid agency that couldn't pour water out of a cup with instructions on the bottom.

The harassment of general aviation from the TSA has got to be STOPPED. Because once it starts, who knows where it will end?

We all need to get involved, and more than just writing our congressmen. Maybe if we harassed them the way the TSA is harassing us, we can gain some headway in these matters.

Not only are they requiring badges, but you know we're going to have to pay for it out of our own pockets too! Damnit where's the link when I need it!?! Gentlemen, I'll be back after some research into what the vampire agency wants to do to us.

At my airport they are requiring all non-transient pilots to obtain an access badge as well. Not only that, we have to pay for it out of our own pocket, somewhere along the lines of $150. It's just an ID card you wear on a lanyard. I'm not sure if this is a TSA initiative or a local airport police initiative, but either way it is excessive.

We have to start wearing ours here at KIWA and have to pay out of our own pocket again even after I had to pay for my key card earlier in the year. I have been waiting on mine for over two months since they spelled my name wrong.:banghead:

Good idea, make a crap-ton of identical badges and require them for access! That will keep them from falling into the wrong hands!

I mean I'd definitely be upset if I had to purchase it, or if I had to have one for each airport - but one badge for GA pilots ... I guess the principal of it doesn't really bother me that much. I have to pick my battles with my limited time - I'll let you guys fight this one.

Not ripping on you, I just find it funny you put it that way. Personally, the act itself, if it was only one badge for GA pilots, wouldn't bother me in the slightest. What really blasts me over the edge is the principle of it!

And if you notice, most people are saying they are having to purchase their own badges... sometimes in excess of $100. What happens when the badge "expires"? Are we going to have to risk paying the renewal fee as well?

The principle of the matter is not so much having an ID badge, but an ID badge mandated by the TSA. Give those guys and inch and they try and take a mile.

I hope you guys took the time to submit your comments on the Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP) to the TSA.

They won't draw the line; we have to.
The LASP is going to be a huge red arse. All of our pilots already need a background check from OPM prior to being allowed to fly. OPM is backlogged as it is, and the agencies don't talk. It took me about ten calls and a day and half of my life to convince the USFS OPM agent, that the DoD OPM had just finished my SSBI prior to my separating from Active Duty.

Boy, if only we had a system in place where pilots were required to carry something that showed they were a pilot, and therefore should have access to the flightline. You know, like a pilot certificate. And then, since the pilot certificate doesn't have a picture on it, we could make them carry a piece of government-issued photo ID to prove that the pilot certificate really goes with them.

Waaaaaait a minute....

In doing the security sweep an F/A found a knife on board. Kinda like a machette. Well when the TSA was notified they said they didn't have the man power to investigate and further search the aircraft. Probably because they were busy coming up with the idea of putting badges on everyone.

I like listening to them on the employee shuttle. Reminds me of being in back in high school or junior high.
