Well i just heard rumor that as of June 1st, at our airport, every one on the field needs to where TSA approved badges. Along with students as well. I guess the idea is, if you see someone on the ramp with out a badge, then you need to question them or call the authorities.

Reminds me of Blazing Saddles.

Badges? We don't need no stinking Badges! :bandit:

Any one else hear about this?

Careful. The TSA wants this to extend to EVERY PILOT at EVERY AIRPORT with ANY airline service.

Transient pilots included.

:panic::panic::panic::panic::panic::panic:

Maybe if I tell them I love their new rent a cop uniforms they'll leave me alone.

I'd wear mine everywhere. "Oh this, that'd be my pilot badge baby, yeah that's right, I'm a pilot.":bandit:

lol sucks for you

Yes, yes it does. My question is, what happens if you land at BZN and you don't have a badge because it's not your home base?

I can't stand the TSA some times. They always come in our office to make sure the door is locked out onto the ramp. There excuses are terrible.

Me, "Hi can i help you sir?"

Undercover TSA guy, "Oh no. I rented a plane here a while back. I was just killing some time before my flight leaves and i just wanted to see whats new."

The guy walks over to the door. Jiggles the handle and says, "Well i'm going to go over to check out the JetCenter now."

Or my personal favorite. The "Viper Strike".

A TSA guys in full SWAT gear armed with an MP5 comes in the door off the ramp and says he is on a "Viper Strike" and that he needs to secure the area. "Clear" and he leaves.

The FBO next door hates them so much they put a sign up next to the ramp door that said "NO TERRORIST OR TSA BEOND THIS POINT" The TSA was not too happy about that. They fined the FBO and made them take it down.

Only thing I wear was my SIDA badge, but not anymore. I might again if things go through with United Airlines

I don't know why theres 2!!!

This is a real sore spot for me... I mean what am I supposed to do, have a whole new case to carry all of my airport badges in? Maybe Sporty's can make a nice, shiny badge case... on wheels! :sarcasm:

Unless TSA is hanging out at your FBO all the time I highly doubt anyone will be reported for not wearing their badge.

And maybe it can double as a fuel strainer, traffic pattern calculator, and ATIS decoder.

No, but it's still a bunch of crap and I'm not happy that it would be illegal for me to be a transient pilot and be unescorted at an airport I don't hold a badge for. You know, most FBOs aren't located in a SIDA so I'm not sure what the point is.

Furthermore, if they really want to "increase security" by forcing all pilots to get a badge, why are they making it a requirement that airport badges have to be independant and not provide for a one-time, federal airport badge?

I hope you guys took the time to submit your comments on the Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP) to the TSA.

They won't draw the line; we have to.

I am also contacting my state representatives regarding the boundaries of the TSA. That's exactly right... they need a leash from someone.

Seeing how a woman ended up at my gate the other day trying to go to ONT with a strange mans boarding pass from JFK-LAX and made it through TSA no problem, I'd say they have a fine program going.

Wow- lets take away freedom of speech along with all of our other rights. The Hitler Youth strikes again.
Sieg Heil!!

OhioStatePilot has the right idea. Everybody contact your congresspeople, work to get them on our side before its too late. The general public has no idea how valuable GA is to the economy, nor how quickly the civil rights violations against private pilots could extend to others.
If the Hitler Youth are allowed to go on with no accountability it will be very bad.

Yes, they think you should.

They would actually have to think about it the fact that 90% for air traffic at most airports is transient and does not have a clue. The FBO is on the AOA so most get screwed. I don't like it any more than you.

I think as pilots, we are headed towards a singluar federal badge. That will allow us to be used all over the US. I don't think that they will be smart enough though, to make all airports let us use that for their badge/ID program. We will still have to have multiple badges just because the TSA at one airport doesn't like or reconize their own employees at another. This stinks!
