PDT not furloughing?

AWAC is recalling more and upgrading a handful as well. Maybe this summer will be good for the airlines after all. Just hope it continues into the fall.

Define "it."

At least in the Delta family, after the summer schedule concludes - block hours will take a significant dive once again and will not return until the summer of 2010.

Just the way the cookie crumbles over here in Delta and DCI land, not that I can blame them really.

You've got better info than we do. Management is telling us they don't have any info on block hours from June onward.

All I know is if I get either furloughed or put on reserve at the end of the year I am going back to school and switching professions. I have Plan B in store and it'll provide me with a much better quality of life.

Wow, giving up after what; 10 months on the line??

10 months, yeup. :sarcasm:

19 months so far.

I'm not going to jump through hoops and live poor for the next 5 to 30 years of my life just to fly airplanes. I'd much rather give someone else the opportunity.

Please please tell me you do see the humor in you correcting him over 9 months?

If it makes a difference I know guys who have over 7 years in who think similarly.

Oh don't get me wrong. My path to getting out of aviation is started, not because I don't like flying, there just isn't going to be any aviation jobs anymore that are worth it, the industry is ruined beyond repair. Thank you baby boomers.

My "jab" was because Jason is incredibly good at whining and there is no way he can claim ignorance on the state of the industry. So after his whopping 19 months and less than 2000 hours of flying experience, one possible bump in the rode and he is out. Each to their own, everyone has their needs and what not, I just found it humorous.

I got hired shortly after Jace did (at a different carrier, but some would say 14 months at Mesa is like 14 years at another carrier) but I'm with him. There is a point where I will say enough is enough. I have a plan B too, I think a lot of people have a plan B. Not like I've got a lot invested with my huge $22/hr pay I'm making.

I have the "get the hell out while you can" idea. It's better to get out now before I waste any more precious years of my life by building a career that leads to very little reward. If I am getting furloughed/making $24-35k/yr for the next several years of my career and potentially having to go back down to the bottom of another lateral-move at least twice, I would feel more comfortable seeking other opportunities now while I am young.

I have a lot of interests, talents, and hobbies that provide the same enjoyment as flying. I will pursue them in the form of a career plan when I finally see the straw that breaks the camel's back.

I agree. I whine. But, I am a very vocal person. I don't sit back and let things mow me over. The squeeky wheel gets the grease.

I think I'd be making a pretty smart move by getting out before it gets worse. I'd much rather take on another career knowing where it will pan out rather than taking on a career with a large amount of uncertainty in my future.

I am thinking about my future, my livelihood, my financial security, and retirement. I think that's a very valid concern that should not at all be associated with past "whining". :) I think you know this.

It all boils down to this: Can I pay my bills AND save/invest money? If I can't pay my bills and save/invest money, there is something seriously wrong with my decision to continue in the career I'm in.
