PUBNAT 5- Announcement ending 7/31

Incedently...panels meet quarterly. Since they last met in January, the ought to meet in April. Doesn't mean they're gonna.

Yep. The ATO will and can change the schedule to meet their needs. I have heard April from my dad and other hub managers he knows, but, like you said, that can change quickly.
 
Just called HR, they said they believe the panel is still expected to meet in April. He said they were drafting the GeoPref email, and were expecting to get those out this week.

Ha! "drafting" the Geopref email! Isn't it the same email each time? How long does it take them to change the date on it?

That's encouraging about the panels. The August panels post was quite a shock. Not sure if I believe him or not yet!

My dad had told me months ago that it could be April - August, but recently had heard confirmation of April. He is just an ATM though...what do they know, right? ;)
 
If they are going to wait for 7 to finish testing then August makes sense.

This sucks over here though...no apps for 5,6,7. Technically the 3/4 ref list is good for 6 months, but that expires in July.

I was an intern at a tower here in the area and the ATM knew about staffing levels at HIS facility and that was about it. Unless your asking for information your probably not in any "loop", the NATCA rep knew much more. And BTW the ATM wasn't even certified to work the traffic at the tower he managed! We all have to wait and see, its a waiting game and we already know that. It's gonna happen and we have all waited for a while so just stay tuned

PS - He does control traffic...has for 28 years. I am sorry the ATM at the facility you interned at had no additional information but his own. My dad had gotten some information, so I thought I would relay to people on here that care to know. Information can change...and change quickly - didn't I already say that in the previous posts? Nothing is concrete, and the ATO will do what is necessary.

I actually bet there are a lot of ATMs (not banks that dispurse money Air Traffic Managers) who are not certified to work the "floor" that's because you have to sit in a room and do these certifications for every section on your sector and on additional sectors. More than likely you'll need to get re-certified on a regular basis for two sectors at a time in case your needed at a different sector. As an Air Traffic Controller things change alot so if they do youll have to go in the room and get certified on the changes. ATMs don't need to waste their time with that. He/She could probably get their certs if they needed them.

Keep in mind that's my understanding of how it works at an enroute facility, A tower you have to know this huge "bible" of things like where the trash can is closest to the departure 3. Not literally but there is a ton a TON of info needed to work a tower to. Tracon its my understanding you have to be certified for every radar in your facility which is again alot of info probably not nescesary for an ATM.

More than likely if you see an ATM he/she has been certified at one time, and is highly respected at that facility, Im sure they have worked hard to reach that status. They are responsible for the entire floor, so as an Air Traffic Controller when you don't skrew up good you worry about you(meaning your responsible for you yourself and maybe an Aside or something), but when johnny next to you does skrew up its not necessarily your problem, granted things will get frantic noises will go off people will be moving around quickly and youll still have to control whatever traffic you have and youll have to change what your doing because something happened. But in the end its Johnny's fault but its his and the ATM, ATO, Deputy, Chief Chief whatever else you want to call them "deal" too. Thats why when you (not directed towards any one person just poeple who take tous in general) wear jeans and a black sabbath tee shirt and you get offended when it crosses the ATMs mind that maybe when Ozzy dies youll be so devistated that he'll have a problem on his hands. Also when you take a tour and you have the attitude that your owed a posistion and you have some cocky attitude and they realize that they have seen 10 of YOU (meaning people just like you) prior who come threw cant take the heat after your 2 weeks away from completing your training and YOU bail! and waste $1,000.00s of government dollars, and great they have to start over.

Yeah he was, but at a tower far far away

I am just saying that everyone is getting their information from the same sources thats why we never hear anything new! ('Emails next week', 'Panels in April' 'Right on track for an April meeting'). So regardless of who you are, unless you know someone who is going to be apart of this panel we all just have to wait. I am not trying to start a conflict or argument or anything like that.
