Obama administration and user fees

Giving our government any more money to spend is like giving a $20 bill to a five year old. We will just end up with a bunch of empty candy wrappers, and toothaches.

Remember the boston tea party was over a 9 pence stamp

We aren't anymore represented than they were then either...
:banghead:

We pay for the NAS every time we pump a gallon of avgas, and each April 15th. We pay above and beyond our share.

Keep in mind, planes not bumping into each other and falling out of the sky is a public good that we ALL benefit from. We already have too many VFR into IMC accidents, too many pilots flying into TFR's ect.

Like the interstate highway system the NAS is somthing pilots and non pilots benifit from. This is what the Dems need to get through their thick heads. It is not a government system that has been put in place so a bunch of rich guys can fly around in business jets.

OMG! Platitudes and an apparent lack of any historical knowledge. Do you remember ANY of your 8th grade civics class?

OK. In theory we are. Practically speaking, a vast majority of our elected officials have absolutely no interest in representing the real interests of the people they represent.

States have been unrepresented in Congress since 1913.

I am aware of all of the history involved with this, but my point still stands. I don't feel that the American people are adequately represented at the federal level. Once the election is over it comes down to buried projects in bills that noone ever hears about. I am not just saying this about the current administration as you and I obviously have different political views. This is a systematic issue that goes back to the federal govenment taking the power from the states when it was needed, and not ever returning the power. It is just too large of a country to group into two overall parties.

It falls under the category of trying to please too many people at once. We have what I feel is an illusion of representation. It is my opinion and will remain that way. It is also an idealogical argument that has no simple or maybe even possible fix. I can fully understand if you view our country differently, but telling me I am ignorant of the facts doesn't accomplish anything.

When it comes down to it, I am a state's rights guy. At least then you have 50 choices to find the best fit for yourself, and the taxpayer has the buying power to take their taxes elsewhere if they don't like what they see. Capitalism can be very efficient. Also, your taxes are spent closer to home where they can more directly effect you and those around you.

Now that I am done with that, I know aviation falls under interstate commerce and that is the job of the federal government. My opinion on user fees is that they just aren't the most efficient vehicle to collect the money and it starts opening doors to buried fees that nobody could anticipate. If they need the money, adjust the fuel tax accordingly and operate out of a simple budget based on one major income stream. Fuel is the most proportionate way to tax the effect of an idividual flight on the overall system. I disagree with targeting GA, but if that is the goal they can do it with AVGAS tax. There is still no need for a fee attached to every little thing you do in an airplane.

This once again is one man's opinion and I only intend to make my view known. Changing other people's minds has never been a priority of mine

I agree. However, you want to participate in the IFR structure, pay the fee. If you elect to continue VFR into IMC, YOU ARE IN VIOLATION OF THE FARs. Get it?

No kidding. And, up until now, GA has basicly had a free ride at the expense of the airlines. The "I pay a whole 19 cents in gas tax" whine doesn't fly. You want to use the NAS, pay the fee. Otherwise stay VFR and use the Cashmere airport.

And republicans. The Bush administration floated this idea too.

OK. In theory we are. Practically speaking, a vast majority of our elected officials have absolutely no interest in representing the real interests of the people they represent..

Sounds like YOU are electing the wrong candidates. That would be a YOU problem, not a systemic problem.

I don't feel that the American people are adequately represented at the federal level.

Again, who are YOU electing? If you get crappy representation, look at the voter in the mirror.

It falls under the category of trying to please too many people at once.

Or maybe it falls into the catagory of protecting special interests. Like allowing GA access to the NAS without paying fees for it.

I can fully understand if you view our country differently, but telling me I am ignorant of the facts doesn't accomplish anything.

Then don't make asinine statements like "We are suffering taxation without representation like they did during the Stamp Act." YOU made the statement in an outpouring of hyperbole.

When it comes down to it, I am a state's rights guy.

Excellent! Break out that Confederate flag with Jeff Davis and the rest of your fireeating buddies. BTW, when is the next slave auction?

Now that I am done with that, I know aviation falls under interstate commerce and that is the job of the federal government.

Wow! At least you got that right.

That is rich. You are the king of platitude spouting and mantra chanting on this board. You and your drive by postings are merely useful for entertainment purposes.

Your candidate ALWAYS wins?

:yup:Speaking of asinine statements.
