Kansas City PEPC

Yea, it's definitly not an easy place to live. The tower is a level 7, which would be acceptable at just about anywhere else in the country...
I can't even afford to take the ferry over there, nevermind live there. But, the point is...why go to the PEPC? I would probably fight that battle behind the scenes and opt out of the PEPC unless I knew something could be done.

Thats gotta be a tough spot to be in, especially if you really want the job.

That was exactly the point of the FAA personnel in charge at the PEPC. I don't know why it could not have been changed before going to the PEPC, but it wasn't me in that situation so I don't know what was/wasn't done beforehand.

The FAA personnel suggested that he accept the position because someone else would take it if he turned it down. It also might be possible to change his facility once he got cleared, but if he declined it, his PEPC visit was over and he would have to apply under another PUBNAT. Oh well, not a great way to start off a potential career with the FAA...

It was awkward... I felt bad for the guy....
I wonder if that guy accepted...

As far as the medical goes, do you leave with any idea of how you done on the medical? Or do they just run the test, fill the paperwork out and send you on your way.

They let you know how you did on everything as you progress through the process. The psych evaluation and drug test are the only things you don't receive 'results' on immediately.

Unless you get a talking to by the medical guy on site going through files or they send you away with forms to have your local physician / optometrist / etc to fill out, you should be okay unless they discover something when they investigate.

Great, that makes me feel a lot better. I don't have any medical issues that i know about, but it is the only part of all the clearances that i feel like I have no control over. I am just afraid that something may come up that I don't even know about. It would be :banghead: to get this far in the process and get denied because of some simple little issue.

If it makes you feel better. I got a talking to about two things in my medical history and I failed the PEPC vision. I still passed my medical after a few weeks.

I had LASIK earlier this year, and my vision is ALMOST 20/20. I can probably pass without glasses, but in one eye its probably closer to 20/30. I went and got a pair of glasses JUST in case, but I wonder if they will let me try it without the glasses and see if I pass... or if I should just wear the glasses and be done with it.

I did corrected and uncorrected vision tests. My nurse later found out that she just had to test us with corrected vision. You have to have 20/20 vision to pass...

I had my physical...the doctor went through everything on my medical form...I thought I was done...

Then before they sign you off completely...you sit down in an office with another doctor who goes over all of your results with you...and asks you questions that the first doctor asked you...

They read everything off to you...and tell you if things will be a problem...

The security lady even told me there were no problems.......

I was very pleased with this process....:rawk:

By the way, they weigh you? I'm a big guy, hope that's not an issue as long as everything else is in order!

Well yea I would expect them to...most physicals usually include weight, height, turn your head and cough, and touch your toes kinda stuff :)

They do weigh you. However, they don't care if you are big......they do check your Blood Pressure....140/90 is the max for 20-29 year olds...

how long did it take you guys? i thought it went by way quicker than expected..i had a 7 am start time and got out by 11 am so only 4 hours.. and alot was either just waiting around for an escort or waiting for them to get the station setup..i was the first one for a couple things ( like the drug test, hearing, and EKG) so they were still workin out the kinks..took about 20 minutes for the lady to work the stupid machine..but other than that i was impressed with how fast it went..

I am in pubnat 3 waiting on our Geo Prefs. I was wondering how exactly the eye exam is given? I was wondering if its like threw a monitor or a chart on the wall do they give you a eye cover and you do one eye at a time or do they just ask you to read the furthest down you can? I have a slight lazy eye so its a little hard with my right eye to read 20/20 but my left eye is much better and I have better than 20/20 If you do fail your eye exam is that it your done or what?

If it's like mine:

1st they do they machine where you lean forward and your forehead pushes that thingy in and the light comes on and they'll ask you to tell them what's on whatever line and what number has the red note over it and so on and so on... if you fail that (me), then you do the chart on the wall covering one eye... if you fail that (me), then they give you a form to visit your optometrist at your own expense to retest and fill out the form and fax it back to the Medical Division.

Also, they give you LOTS of tries to get it right on the machine and the wall chart.
