Your medical is your career. I built an app for the paperwork side of it.

I fly for Southwest now, and I spent years in corporate aviation before that. I have spent the last several months building an iPhone and iPad app called Pilot Medical Guardian, and it went live on the App Store this month. A Mac version is coming soon.

Given what this forum is for, here is the angle that matters. The thing that takes pilots out of the cockpit is usually not a diagnosis. It is waiting. The FAA's own explanation for why applications get denied is a paperwork problem rather than a health one: "Most of these denials resulted because of a failure of the applicants to provide sufficient information for the FAA to make a favorable decision." That is from the Federal Air Surgeon FAQ, not my spin on it. In my experience it is the same thing that turns a routine renewal into a long wait.

You cannot control what a doctor finds. You can control whether your records are complete and consistent when you walk in. That is the whole idea behind it.

Since this is a place where people discuss their actual medical history, let me get this out of the way first. Everything stays on your device and in your own iCloud. There is no server of mine, no account to create, and I cannot see your health data. That was the first design decision, not something added later.

What it does:

- Keeps your medications, doctor visits and medical documents in one place, cycle to cycle
- Fills your meds and doctor visits into MedXPress at renewal so you are not retyping from memory. That is Items 17 and 19. On Item 18, the medical history section, it stores your answers and explanations so you are not rewriting them every cycle, but you still tap the 25 Yes/No questions yourself.
- Tracks Special Issuance requirements and what is due when. About 1 in 16 certified airmen holds an SI, and per the FAA the total has roughly doubled since 2019
- Counts down to expiration based on your class and age

Free to download with a real free tier. Optional subscription at $29.99 a year for the heavier stuff.

It is an organizing tool. Not medical advice, not FAA anything. Whether you are fit to fly is always your call as the pilot.

If you would rather read about it before installing anything, I wrote a free MedXPress walkthrough here, no signup: FAA MedXPress Guide 2026 | How to Complete Form 8500-8

App Store: Pilot Medical Guardian App - App Store

Happy to answer questions, including the skeptical ones.

Since this site doesn't allow advertising I sort of find it odd that a new user comes on here to push his app. I hope this sort of thing is discouraged but maybe a new category called "spam" could be created for stuff like this to keep it out of member announcements.

I fly the line and I built it, which is why I posted. If Member Announcements wasn’t the right place, I’m fine with a mod moving or pulling it.

Not here to spam the board. Appreciate you looking.

I don't mean to be the forum nazi. A more appropriate place would the "the trading post". The webmasters stated rules are:
1. Must be materials that you actually own.
2. This is NOT and I repeat NOT meant for services (aka, flight training, "come see my website!, etc)
3. Multi-level marketing crap posters will be tarred, feathered and ridiculed to the highest possible extent. And we'll say bad things about your mother.
4. Must be aviation related. NO EXCEPTIONS
4.1 We're going to allow ipods, iphones, cell phones, computers and that type of thing to be posted in the trading post.
5. Do not post your ebay or other store/auction URL.

Looks like I’m in the minority, but this actually looks pretty useful from where I’m sitting. It’s also possible that I’m an idiot.

Either way, I appreciate you informing us about it. Everyone is free to make their own decisions as to if it’s something they want to use or not.

The concept is intriguing. I get annoyed to no end at the need to copy/paste my entries from previous medicals every six months, but in wedded to my PC and am loathe to enter my medicals on my iPad/phone because of my propensity for typographical errors on both devices.

Thankfully my SI is pretty simple so other than remembering my doctor visits from the last six months I don’t have tons to worry about bringing supporting evidence for my medicals.

So listen, is this a cool app? I don’t know. Maybe. Sadly for both of us I really don’t care. This vibe coding • had absolutely obliterated many of my normal online spaces. This • is everywhere, all the time and most of it is trash.

I’d rather not this place go the same way. I’m willing to sacrifice the good stuff (possibly your app) in order to keep out the trash.

Jesus Goddamned Tap Dancing Christ you people are embarrassing this site.

The guy wrote an optional app and shared it out. It's got a free tier that you can try, and then you can decide to pay if you want. Whether or not he breached etiquette by using the wrong forum page is hardly worth the snark and BS you guys are throwing at him.

Whether we care about vibe coding or not, it's here to stay. Whether there was AI help to make the original post does not effing matter in the slightest.

At least try the thing out before you criticize the guy for trying to build something useful.

I haven't been including my visits, except for every so often when I remember "did I have a physical in this half of the year"?
Does OKC really care and follow up?

I think it's more of a "gotcha" should they ever find cause for fraud or something big you were hiding and it's just something for them to nail you on if they have other reasons and just want an easy way to revoke your medical, but really I think it's for the AME's info more than OKC.

But per the instructions it is allowed that "[m]ultiple visits to one health professional for the same condition may be aggregated on one line" so mine is largely just one entry for each year's physical plus the latest follow up for recurring condition check up or any new injuries. I think other than some recent surgeries I put maybe 5 entries on each medical, the last three physicals and my two most recent recurring condition monitoring visits. The fact I have to copy/paste the entries is more nuisance than anything. I mean, the FAA has all that data I submit anyways, why on earth MedExpress can't just include all my previous ones, delete those >3 years, and just have me enter in new ones is beyond me.

Nah. This is a hill I’m willing to die on. You’re right vibe coding is here to stay and that means literally anyone with the tokens to spend can “build” an app. There used to be some amount of natural gatekeeping because not everyone could do it. People would advertise their • but it happened rarely. Now there is no gate. I’ve seen entire online communities consumed by this. What once used to be lively thriving areas of discussion have morphed into nothing but AI written posts spamming another iteration of a claude built solution for a problem that’s either not a problem or has already been solved. Post after post after post.

Maybe that won’t happen here. This is an Internet forum after all. This format is old and archaic. Overlooked. But if they catch on they will come here. Especially if we allow it without some serious constraints.

Look, I don’t like my position either, but blind acceptance will lead this community to ruin.
