Your lanyard and you...

Don't forget backpacks.
In the KCM line a couple of weeks ago at DFW. One of @Seggy co-workers. Very classy.

Sure?

If you are ever faced with that decision I hope you don't make that decision using the "got away with it" mentality.
Of course I wouldn't, it's about integrity. I'm just saying that almost all of them had an uneventful career and never had to deal with any of the repercussions.

If you're gonna backpack it...at least make it black or whatever color is approved luggage shade for your organization.

Hell, for all we know that shade of tattered dark navy blue may just be what United wants.

I hate this. Um... Sick accessories bro.
Ahem @grkero
Why yes, yes y
Other pilots are the only people in the entire universe who give a flying flip.
Come on man, really? We all bitch and moan about being treated like professionals and being respected and part of that is looking like a professional. This tool bag couldn't even be bothered to make the effort to match the color of the backpack to his other bag or uniform. But then again he has already "arrived" at mainline hasn't he?

Correct him on the spot.

Do you work for an airline or the military?

It is hard. I don't want to say it's "above me" to correct someone on their uniform, but it is above me. I don't work there. I have no idea what their policy states. For all I know UA may hand out backpacks in indoc. I highly, highly, doubt they do, but I don't KNOW.

Plus I'm a regional shlub that has a clip instead of a lanyard, doesn't wear a hat, and has the "commando" sweater because that keeps me warm enough, even in Canada. And I don't care, it's my face that makes me look fat, not the sweater.

Personally I never understood the hatred for back packs. As long as you are not wearing it, who cares? They are great for long overnight hikes, they are great in the cockpit for getting your EFB out of, and they take up little space compared to a flight kit (normally). As far as being unprofessional, I guess you should tell the guys pulling down 500k a year doing IT work they are "unprofessional"

Or look at what your average ATC is wearing lol. My summer uniform strictly consists of shorts and flip flops.

The definition of what constitutes professional attire has changed drastically everywhere but here and a few other professions. Take that for whatever it's worth. Appearance is a facet of professionalism but it isn't the entire diamond.

Personally I doubt the paying customer cares whether or not you're carrying a backpack if you got them there on time, or if you didn't get there on time you handled the situation well.

I saw someone walking through SFO today with a full on lumberjack beard, but I didn't get a look at who he worked for.

He sure was rockin' that beard though...
