You know what really grinds my gears?

Goonie

Never say die
If your an instrument student or green instructor stop with the...
"...in the box"

"...in the meter"

"...with a flash"

"...tallyho on the traffic"

and for gods sake..."....roger"

I hear ATP seminoles and Skymates aircraft say this jet jock crap all over approach.

Seriously, its more entertainment for me on the radio than anything so keep it up.

What about if there's an MD on Final - "Mad Dog in sight"

Also, while we are on the subject...stop saying point. one point two for 4.5 sounds a lot like 1.244.5 (doesn't make a lot of sense when I hear it either.) I really do love proper phraseology. Although I can't resist sneaking a "Jungle Jet" in there once in a while when tower tells me about an approaching EMB-145. Guilty pleasures...once a week or so.

I think Roger means I heard ya or something while Wilco means Will Comply.

I don't know about Roger. My instructor is anal about phraseology but even he tells me to reply with roger sometimes.

IMO you are correct. I was also taught that Roger = I heard the transmission and understand it.

WILCO: I heard the transmission and Will Compy...

There is less wiggle room with the second response.

I think he's saying roger offers no understanding to the controller about if you have the traffic in sight.

"...looking for traffic, we have it in the fishfinder though..."

There was a jet coming into the airport when I was doing approaches and he said that, my instructor and I were rather amused.

I love it when people use "tallyho"; it cracks my stuff up. I really need to start busting that word out more often.

i like the term "painting"

I think that is actually a technical term for the function of the radar. It sure does paint a pretty picture on the screen.

I love when cessna guys say they have traffic on TCAS.

Coming out of CHO today, Potomac was yelling at a Cirrus because he called traffic for him and the guy said he had the traffic on TCAS. Approach kept asking, but do you see the traffic and the poor Cirrus kept saying yeah, on the screen. Oh well. He asked us if we had the Cirrus and my captain got smart and said yeah... we had him on the TCAS and visual.

Telling ATC that you have traffic on TCAS is a waste of breath and airtime. ATC doesn't give two bags of llama $&!+ if you have it on TCAS, that doesn't help them at all. All they want to know is if you can see it or not.

Yeah "we got them on TCAS" is one of my most hated phrases. "fishfinder" makes me want to kill...

Ryan, I think you might have spent a little too much time on 135.97 when even "roger" is starting to get to ya! :)
