You know what really grinds my gears?

"Tally" and "With a Flash" are actually correct military pilot verbage. I know that when I fly GA, I can't separate the radio habits I have from 1,000 hours in the Strike Eagle from the ones that I am "supposed" to have (?) in a Cessna.

Now, I do think that "Roger" is the most worthless word in the pilot glossary, since it is mostly meaningless in and of itself, and widely misused among pilots. It's like "Copy", which I also think is widely misused.

I do have a bug up my butt about using "with you"...no sense in making an issue of it, since it has been argued/cussed/discused ad nauseum here and elsewhere...I hate it, though.

I DO hate crap like "fishfinder" and "Mad Dog", because I think it sounds unprofessional.

I, however, can't cast stones since I have some bad radio habits that I can't seem to shake. Worst of all, I say "Twelve point five" when I mean "Twelve thousand, five hundred."

So what happens when you're in the clouds and approach says "Traffic two o'clock 3 miles a Cessna?"

Dost thou waste valuable air time explaining why you can't see him because you're in the clouds?

I just say "Roger." :)

I didn't say that "Roger" was never an appropriate response.

People tend to use it when they REALLY mean "Affirmative", and that's annoying as crap.

I usually say "Amflight yada yada yada IMC." That lets them know that I'm not able to see and avoid.

There was a jet coming into the airport when I was doing approaches and he said that, my instructor and I were rather amused.

I love it when people use "tallyho"; it cracks my stuff up. I really need to start busting that word out more often.

It's funny you say that. I 172 at KBDR replied to the tower with Tallyho, and tower replied with "alright Maverick, # 2 cleared to land" lmfao.

I feel i've had a slight advantage doing all of my flying on the outskirts on New Yorks Bravo. Any airspace demands your A game, but IMO New York's especially does. I've learned to use KISS, and if you can talk to New York controllers without sounding like a freaking retard then they will give you anything you want. However, if your the type of guy (or gal) that uses "uhhhh" a lot, and keeps your mic open for more than 15 seconds, be prepared to hear "cessna xyz. You are not cleared into the Bravo".

Just something i've picked up on.

And i've said it before, but another thing that makes me laugh is when a single pilot aircraft replies with "we" or "we're". Are those people so affectionate about their airplane that they consider it an equal? Or are they just crazy? lmfao.

Not picking on a particular regional but its the only one I hear it from...maybe its the same kid but
"Chicago Deeeeparture, Waterski XXXX checkin in on board with ya @ two point one for four thousand."
Makes me look at the yoke and consider:banghead:

My student and I were on with flight following one day and heard: "Hey Albuquerque, how ya doin'? Air Shuttle XXXX is checkin' in at FLxxx"

ABQ then gave them a crossing restriction on an arrival in to PHX, something like "Cross BBALL at 11,000 and 250" and he came back: "Albuquerque, you know I can do that; eleven and two fifty"

As long as you don't say "in sight" they know you can't see and avoid.

That's just funny, considering your screenname. ;)

I don't say any of that junk, and I'm a jet jock (heh). I have been known to check on with a "Center, Jakshimash, Jetlink 505 at three seven zero."

One that happened a few days ago on te unicom was a tow plane telling a 172 (my friends) to POH. Uhhhh, O.K., he was on final and the tow plane was taking off. I know tow planes have priority, but the 172 was already on final when he moved out on the run way. :panic:

I thought about that as I posted it. ;)

sometimes I do fail to live up to my screen name ;)

I would say something like "Ramex 515 is IMC." I think that gets the point across that I am unable to see the traffic.
