I talked to my CFI-G about this and he sent me the following:
I just forwarded you a link to read more about this accident. go to www. rec.aviation.soaring@googlegroups.com to open it. In any case, a classic stall, spin by a highly experienced pilot. The high performance racing glider is a demanding beast and it will bite you quicker than any powered airplane I can think of with the exception of the older century series fighters, the F-100, the English Electric Lightning, the F-104, F-105, and the grand daddy of them all, the F-8 Crusader, with over half the fleet lost to operational accidents. The big issue of course is that once the spin starts, you are screwed....no eraser on the front end to pull you out of it.
