more importantly, will I get PAID Captain pay if I assume command of the aircraft :D.

What if I invoke the 25th Ammendment??? :nana2:

The ER FO.

Saving the world a crew meal, a nap and a minimum 24 hour layover at a time. ;)

Even if the Captain is dead it still doesn't change the FARs for the requirements to act as Pilot In Command.

So technically- you are acting PIC, but not for logabble criteria.

Well actually in theory and according to the FAA, saw a letter from them answering this question. A FO can log all flights in which he was pilot flying as PIC, sole manipulators of the controls, now this is only in regards to putting it in the logbook, that's all. So in that aspect yes such FO can indeed according to the FAA log it as PIC. Hence why so many airlines define their req PIC time for a job as as signing for the aircraft, being a Capt, therefore eliminating that loophole. If I find such letter I will post it, don't remember where I saw it.
It also says that you can log IFR when the other person is flying in actual, since you are a required crew member.

Disclaimer: I choose not to log either time as such since it makes very little sense in future jobs.

...and me your Captain has to go take a potty break. While I am in the back the engine shuts down and we are in a dire situation.

Before I can get back you do your job, declare an emergency, get us lined up for an airport, and run the approriate checklists. After you do this, I come back.

Were you the PIC at all during this time? You were in Part 121 Airline Operations.

Love your Avatar:)

Our peckers are so big as we are the real men of the sky, a floor mounted yoke would get in the way.

Same reason why the harness is only 4 points, the bottom strap was left out for this very reason. The 1900 was designed with the pilot in mind.

Sadly you and I are no longer real men of the sky, we now bow down to the all mighty FADEC and push buttons on the FMS.
