You are a First Officer...

Just look at the title for a First Officer: Second-In-Command.

Yes, you will take over the duties of the Captain should he or she become incapacitated. However, that does not mean you are the PIC. You are the SIC, and by assuming the duties of the Captain, you are asserting the "In-Command" part of your title.

...and me your Captain has to go take a potty break. While I am in the back the engine shuts down and we are in a dire situation.

Before I can get back you do your job, declare an emergency, get us lined up for an airport, and run the approriate checklists. After you do this, I come back.

Were you the PIC at all during this time? You were in Part 121 Airline Operations.

The captain in this situation still remains PIC.

This is because the captain can log "stick time" while in the lav as long as he was the sole manipulator.

If someone else was manipulting the captain while in the lav, then no..............unless you are a Pinnacle pilot.

:)

This is the reason why the rest of ICAO has the P1(US) category for relief pilots. You have to have a full PIC type rating and have had your training to be relief so you then log PIC (under supervision). You still did not sign for the jet so you are not the full PIC.

WHY IS THERE NO FLOOR MOUNTED YOKE SEGGY!?

C'mon I've gotta leave for work in a few the suspense is killing me... google might become my friend!

But that's your job, to take over if something happens to the captain. You shouldn't be expecting any extra accolades for doing it. Just FIDO.

Ah Hell, maybe that's just an old school way of thinking.

Was anyone expecting any accolades? I did not recall anyone saying, "OMG I did that, that's what I did look at me?" Or did I miss something?

If you're taking a big enough of a deuce does that count for incapacitation? Because, I don't know about you but that might incapacitate me!

It's like on Star Trek when they say 'Lt So-and-so, take the conn..."

You have control of the airplane, but the Captain is still the PIC.

The only reason B1900 drivers are "real men of the sky" is because you don't see too many Jetstream 31 drivers around anymore.

You bunch of daffodils with your EFIS screens, your good bleeds, and your airplane that can actually be trimmed to fly straight and level.

<--- former Jetstream (Skypig..Deathstream..Junkstream...Jetscream...J-Bird...Wetdream...) copilot. (Wow...<gulp> it's been 12 years since I flew the mighty J-ball.... or rather, since it flew me. ;)

All praise Lucas, the Prince of Darkness.

Another reason their sissified is they never went out with JJ. Let alone to the Gingerbreadman. ;)

When I was based in Johnstown there was an agent named Wendy who worked at the Gingerbreadman. Nice to look at... but wow. She had a real future in talk shows I think . ;)
