Well after a few months of hard work passed my PPL checkride today! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/spin2.gif

Had by far the best flight of my life and nailed the three landings the DE had me do. The checkride lasted 1.8 with about a 20 minute ground session.

It feels good but at the same time I have A LONG way to go with this goal of mine of becoming a commercial airline pilot and I have A TON of more learning to do.

On to the Instrument!

Sweeet! good job seggy - makes for a happy day make sure you celebrate! takes hard work to get it done good job and congrads /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

Gongrats man! When did you start working on it? I am close to my first checkride for PPL. Keep up the good work.

[The PP wants to be a CP, CP wants to be a CFI, CFI wants to fly RJs, RJ Captain wants to fly Majors, Major Captain wants to fly 777, 777 captain just wants to toot around the pattern in a C172]

Seggy, mind elaborating on what the instuctor had you do on the checkride? Mine is coming up in a few days, hopefully, and would like more info to help ease the nerves.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Congrats!

You'll always remember that one.

No doubt. I still remember it well. Towards the end of the flight, the alternator went TU, so my practice diversion became a real one...to the airport where I was based. Then I had to drive the examiner 30 miles back to his base in rush hour traffic. Doh! Super nice guy though.

Anyone notice the similar patterns of the post checkride threads?

Private: Yay!!!!!!! Im a pilot!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Instrument: Whew!!! That was a tough one, Im lucky he didnt bust me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif.

Commercial: Well, it took me 9 rides, but I finally got the power off 180's right /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

CFI: FINALLY.... Now I cant start getting free time /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Just an observation.

BTW, congrats and enjoy the freedom.

A few things...

First, sorry I couldn't right more last night I was very pumped and had to get ready to go down to Atlantic City last night with my friends to celebrate.

Secondly, thanks to ALL of you on here. This site is the best and I have learned SO much from being on here. It has been invaluable to me and my learning.

To answer the questions...

Yes it was only about a 20 minute ground oral. That is after he checked over my paperwork, flight plans, etc. The DE asked me a few questions about the sectional, a few about the plane, drew some fronts, basic aerodynamic stuff and off we went.

The checkride was awesome by far the best flight of my life in terms of my flying and landings. I greased all three landings we did. A short field, soft-field, and no flaps. The DE is BIG on landings.

About the numbers I actually broke down the cost of my PPL. It cost me $8543.44 NOT including supplies and books. Before my checkride my time was:

TT was 67.4
Dual Received: 57
Cross Country was: 17.9 (I LOVE EM)
PIC was 10.4
Complex: 8 (I want an Arrow /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif)
Simulated Hood time was 3.7
Night 3.1
157 Day Landings
11 Night Landings

All of this time was logged since April 10th of this year.

My instructor is an awesome guy and an awesome teacher. He has definetly created an excellent foundation for me to continue to learn and for me to reach my ultimate goals in aviation. I am going to use him for my Instrument and Commercial stuff as well. We did not cut any corners and trained with the best aircraft available to us.

On to the instrument. Was not able to fly today, but I bought the Jepp Instrument/Commercial Book and plan on using that along with the King tapes for the next rating.

Once again though, I would like to thank everyone on here for the advice and support that is offered on here.

May I ask why you did the complex? Was it to go ahead and get the endorsement?

Also, if you dont mind reading, consider the gleim books for the written too. You may be a visual learner, but I cant hardly take the Kings /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/spin2.gif.
