Xoom owners?

Xoom is a horrible product. I spend a bunch of time with a production review unit. Honeycomb is a novel concept at best. It is glitchy, and just like every other version of Android, feels unfinished. NO useful apps, and not a lot of developer support either. I would peg the Xoom for somebody who wants a computer, that only uses a computer for word processing, internet browsing, email etc.

The iPad just works. It syncs flawlessly (granted you need iTunes) and has unmatched developer support with an app for everything. Combine Foreflight and an iPad you have one of the best EFBs out there, for just about the lowest price. I use my iPad daily for everything. I will say I think it compliments a computer, it doesn't even come close to replacing it, but no tablet out will do that yet.

And scooter, no flash? People still talk about flash!? Everything that matters has been converted to HTML5.

What apps do you really need? The popular ones are going to be on both platforms. For books Android has the Amazon Kindle app and Google books. Kindle app is better especially if you have Amazon Prime (many more free books). The only thing the iPad has had on the Android tablets were software and hardware. Now hardware has gotten better than the iPad and when ICS comes out many of the Android Tablet issues will be resolved. ASUS has actually done really well with Android 3 on their Transformer Prime and it will be upgrading to ICS early next year for free.

I do realize foreflight or any other similar program isn't on the Android tablets, but many of us on here work at Part 135 or 121 ops that provide charts for us. No need to buy Foreflight and a subscription. If the carrier has the iPad approved as a EFB they will provide the tablet to you for free. A free tablet will always be the best tablet.

I have the Kindle app for my iPad it is great.

So far the only tablet I have seen approved for 121 and 135 has been the iPad. Just an iPad with Jeppview would be fantastic. I freaking HATE updating Jepps. I personally wish our company would give us the option of getting Jeppview for those of us who already have an iPad.

Fwiw, I just finished a photo shoot on a beach down in key largo for a small family. Using the wft on my 1d, all of the pictures were on my home FTP server in NJ inside of an hr. from there I connected with remote desktop ran a batch raw conversion, as well as some general batch processes ( b/w, vignette etc) when I saw them 3 hours later I had a web album set up for orders, and was able to sit there, on the tab (plugged in to a 40in tv going through the images and making notes)

Placed $350 in print orders, I'd say half because I was able to sit down with the photos in their location.

Sure I could do it with a laptop, but, when I walk around with 2 camera bodies, 5+ lenses reflectors, 3 strobes, stands, props etc, the tab is so much better. Add in the seamless wifi hot spot ( and ability to download the images from my 7d(not paying for the wireless grip) and upload) it really works well for me.

Once I get home I'll actually edit the photos, but, it's not work I want to do on my laptop anyways, and my laptops got a core i7 2.3ghz, 6gb ram and nvidea 525qm card with cuda - it's no slouch, but it's not ideal for editing.

The real point here, is that the right tab can really do amazing amounts of work.

It depends what you want to do with it. I have an iPhone 4s, and the xoom. A production review version is like 5 updates old.

It's one of those things, general use, multi media the iPad is great. However, the iPad is useless to me.

All of the above was with a xoom

FWIW, I didn't say anything about flash. I agree though, the media transition is to HTML5. Adobe came out a few weeks ago and stated they wouldn't supporting flash on mobile products anymore.
