XJT contract

Thanks for the information, guys. Any latest on what first year pay on the ERJ will be going to?

Interviewing at Xjet soon. Reading about FO's bailing because of no chance of upgrade? Can any current Xjet pilots tell me how long the actual upgrade time would be if hired into the ERJ out of EWR in the next couple months? Reserve time? No previous 121.. Thx

Pushing 9 years.

Some may tell you it's closer to 8.

Even some may tell you it'll drop to six.

Stay away.

Haa, recruiter told me 3-4 .. figures. Is the CRJ side any better?
Both sides have the same problem. Long upgrades due to lifers and other reasons. The ERJ side has an additional problem of shrinking.

Remember Upgrade time can be calculated many different ways and recruiters will always use the time that is most advantageous to their cause.

The only best guess you should really use is "Upgrades per year / FO's ahead of you = upgrade time". This still isn't accurate as upgrades could increase or decrease over time but it would give you a better idea of the current picture.

Using date of hire to calculate upgrade time is completely worthless to everyone except the people currently sitting in upgrade class. I have spoken to people that were literally in the same new-hire class that had to wait 1-2 years longer than their classmates for an upgrade because upgrades had stopped.

I'll admit, I miss the quality contract at XJT but sitting right seat for 10+ years isn't worth the time.

On the CRJ side six years by the end of 2016 is realistic.
When all 2008 hires upgrade, it jumps to 2010.
About 120 2008's left.
Minimum 8 upgrades/month.
FOs with no TPIC time being hired away.
All airplanes that were suppose to be retired in 2016 are now being retained.

We'll see.

Thanks for the info. Turning 42 this year, maybe I should GO somewhere else.

It's kind of a crap shoot. Upgrade times can change in a heartbeat.
I've seen this rodeo once or twice. It's like cats chasing a laser or people rushing to jump into the next Apple stock.
Normally by the time one hears about fast upgrades and rushes over the wave has already broken. Meanwhile the one everyone talks down suddenly becomes the place to be.
My recommendation to people looking at regionals has not changed.
1. Look at the strength of the company.
2. Look at the contract. Pay is important but not everything.
3. Look at bases.
4. Last, look at upgrade time after considering everything else as a tie breaker. Heck, I've known a number of FOs with NO TPIC time who have been picked up by legacy carriers.
There is a good chance wherever you go it will only be a stepping stone to a major, but I know many senior pilots in their 50's and 60's who thought this would be the case 20-30 years ago. If you are paid and treated well it won't matter.

I think I remember you saying that before. I just saw from one of my LASA friends that said y'alls passed, so maybe it's out. Ball's in their court now. Don't spend your $1.50 in one place :p

If you ever make it to DFW let me know, I'll buy you a cup of coffee

As a % increase it's pretty small for me- less than 1%. I voted yes for the junior FOs, to give management what they said they needed and hopefully give both pilot groups time to cool off and realize we will be better in the long run together rather than squabbling over who has the better contract. Will it help management? Got me. I gave up trying to predict this industry years ago.
As for bringing the pilot groups together, at this point I think the best thing is to try and spend the next two years putting aside differences and getting one contract. If we can't, then let's have the two MEC chairmen do a 2 out of 3 public rock, paper, scissors. Everyone agrees to accept the contract of the winner.

I wish we could agree on more, you guys have some awesome guys over there. One of the benefits of the DFW base is I get to meet CRJ guys as well.

As for the rock paper scissors, I propose rock paper scissors lizard spock :smoke:

I almost proposed the same thing.

I've only heard good things from CRJ guys at the DFW base.
