Worst plane to fuel!

I've done the caravan in 40 knot winds. How I didn't die is beyond me. How I didn't throw up from ingesting fuel is a miracle. I didn't taste much for a few days after though.

Now the amphib, that's easy! I could do that all day!

I did all that while going uphill both ways in 10 ft of snow...:D

Heres my solution

That's the way to do it!

O yes, the 208 is always fun.. especially when no one told me on my first day about the siphon valve.

MU-2 was fun going back and forth.

Hated the ATR 42.. the only ladder we had was just tall enough where I (5'6) would stand on the very top wrung and lift the single point above my head and hope to lock it in the first time.

Also, the Falcon 10 I think it was. It has the pressurized over wing caps. We would stand there and take bets to see how far the caps would shoot up if we didn't twist them off right. One guy said he found a cap 50 yds or so down the ramp.

I just started at a rather small FBO so I dont have to worry about airliners but I have to say the biggest pain for me is the diamond DA-20. There just is no way to know if it's full until the spouts all over the wing

I agree with...well...everyone

CAP with their 2.9 gallons

Twin Commanders with the spring loaded caps you can't get off. And the bars to prevent the nozzle from going too far in the tank(sprays drops of fuel everywhere, even if you pump slow)

ATR 42's - only had to fuel one so far and I hope it is my last

MU-2 - never thought it was a pain because I never got fuel splashed on me but they are time consuming, luckily we have a new jet truck with two overwing nozzles so two people can fuel both wings at the same time and we don't have to stop

yeah i'll put my vote in for the MU-2. thats a fun plane everyone loves to hate.

I fueled an A-26 last week, way worse than a caravan. you have to stand on the wings.

Im totally gonna try standing on the fuel truck next time a caravan or anything on floats comes around. Thats a great idea.

My worst, Q400 overwing.

Yeah, that sucks pretty bad. For the 8 months or so that we had Dash 8 service here we never had to overwing them, thank goodness.

747's are fun with our equipment. Our trucks don't have any lift platforms, so we have to stand on a ladder on top of a truck. It's really safe. :sarcasm:

It can only get worse, one Q400 needed to be overwinged 4 times in one day. Did 3 of them and managed to escape back to the office before it came back in again.

That's pretty sucky about the 747, none of your trucks don't have a fixed level elevated work platform that works on the 747?

They all have fixed platforms, but it's still not tall enough. Our tallest truck at the platform is around 10 feet tall, and the ladder that we use is an additional 6 feet.

I agree that the Caravan is not very fun to fuel. Being only 5'9" makes it even harder. I've been on the job for 3 months and the only other airplane that I feel sucks worse than the caravan is the Quest Kodiak (www.questaircraft.com). I got a good jet fuel bath.

+1. I've never fueled a helicopter that didn't suck.

Blackhawks are easy! Apaches are pretty easy. Apaches with ordinance...not so much. Chinooks are easy!

I never liked the Do-328 in regards to servicing. That single point hose gets heavy standing 8 feet in the air on top of a ladder. The single point connector on the plane is at a slight angle which is hard to line up. Throw in below freezing temps and some ice= not fun. Biplane Agcats can suck (at least the jet-a ones). Over the wing on a Falcon 20 gives you a good stretch and those fuel caps are nuts! Always fun to scare a new guy. Doing a MU-2 or Old Lear is not much fun by yourself (running wing to wing balancing the load). F-18's can sometimes be a pain because the nozzle connector is at a slight angle and it is just above your head.

Haha, here is what we improvised when we had 4 Atlas birds come thru...

C-5's sorta suck because it takes so long and our trucks are only 5,000 gal. So we have to usually do 2 trips or so with 2 trucks. We have had trouble with pumping two at the same time as well. One truck will usually back-feed with that plane for some reason. (Thats me in the red shirt btw)

Yeah, but at most that is what, 30 gallons? Worst for me was either the early Learjet (23/24/25) or MU-2. Or the CAP 172 that would come in and ask for 2.9 in each tank.
I agree with the MU2. If your fueling it by yourself you have to do the inboards, then out boards then 30 per tip if you dont want to tip it over. Good workout though...

i have actually put some more thought into this and im starting to say fueling 150s and 152s just because they are impossible to not spill fuel. even it it doesn't blast out of the caps, it'll always rain out of the vent. damn aerobats.

Aerobats are the worst. I fly one and that vent drips like there is no tomorrow with a full tank.
