Worst inflight situation!

Severe ice somewhere south of Jackson Hole, Wy. Fell of radar, below MEA, MOCA, etc...and used the WX radar to paint mountain peaks and valleys and made it down to Idaho Falls.

1. Right engine failure in an ATP seminole. Although it started right back up again, probably water in the lines or something.
2. Complete electrical failure just after take-off flying a C-172RG out of SAT (had a handheld radio.)
3. Engine shut-down on the Dash-8, low oil press light.
4. Cabin depress on the Dash-8, got to wear the oxygen mask although we were only at like 13,000ft
5. Complete electrical failure while ferrying a Mooney across the country.

This is in chronological order, by the way.

"gear up in the duchess" - get ready for the 709, Mark815?

Hope you got out ok at the time :)

Alex.

No 709, it was a mechanical malfunction. Lost all hydraulics and the nose door was stuck shut. I wasn't PIC at the time either, so even if there was pilot error, which there wasn't, no 709 for me. And yeah we got out fine, it was actually a great learning experience in the end. There's a thread on it here from a couple years ago that I posted.

You must have been in a piper with only that little, tiny vent window to puke out of :D

Indeed I was; N8068C. It was a little bumpy so I climbed up and the ride smoothed out. Then I dropped my pencil and bent down to grab it......Big mistake....came back up, head went bonkers and out came the eggs. At least I had a sic-sac. Only a little bit didn't make it in.

It was heck trying to locate myself on the map while flying the plane and holding teh sic-sac. Then I flew right over a field I ahd landed at before. I remembered that was due west of my home field. Left turn to hdg of 090 and no longer needed a map. :o

So that's the gist of the story. I knew there was some story about you and ice.

2 summers ago I was pretty low on gas in a crappy -ER model 145. Storms popped up en-route over our destination, next closest airport had TS as well. Third best airport required significant deviating around leaving us with a couple pounds over emergency fuel. Lesson learned is that VCTS is a crappy TAF contraction that is more likely to shut me out than 800/2 which technically requires an alternate.

The one engine failure I had in a twin piston about 15 minutes after departure didn't phase me nearly as much.

Going to Oshkosh we stopped at Juliet to get fuel because they offered auto fuel. Now after getting fuel we were maxxed out on weight. And for those of you who have been there, there is a huge gas station right at the end of the runway so if you loose a engine your landing in the gas pumps. Well as I said we were maxxed out and we maybe passed over the gas station at 100 AGL. I still cant understand who would put a gas station at the depature end of a runway.

Parking my rented 150 in trees at night cause of carb icing as a student pilot.:o
I will always recommend renter's insurance to everyone,...

Funny how I was reading all your posts last night I thought to myself, hey I haven’t had a scary moment yet but then it happened today when I was going to KVGT.
My buddy and I were planning to fly to Vegas today. Tower cleared us to take off from runway 17. As soon as we hit 70 knots on the airspeed indicator and almost about to rotate, the plane started to shake violently. So I aborted take-off and came to full stop on the runway. I tried to taxi out but the plane was barely moving even with full power. Yup, flat tire baby. Somehow the nose tire pretty much exploded during our take-off. They had to shut down the runway and tow the plane to the parking.

So much for the in-and-out burger I was planning to eat for dinner… :( :( :( :( :(

Glad it happened at KSLC and not at KVGT while landing....

Almost pissed myself in a 150 because I drank too much Pepsi. Right seater let out some vicious gas so I had him take over while I stuck my head out the window like a dog.
Electrical failure in a 172 going into an airport where my cellphone (of course) couldn't get a signal to call somebody to come fly my sorry butt back home.

Taking a dump in a chart case with no bags to line it! And no TP
One & two hour flights never made me actually drop one, but I always carried a plastic bag with paper towels just in case>
Note to self, be cautious about buying a used chart case!

Worst in-flight situation: CFI initial. Crummy day; I would've failed me too. :(

Mechanically speaking, I've been fortunate. An electical issue once, nonevent; Fuel flow dropped to zero; ended in nonevent.

Freakin' navigator stealing my lunch on a long over-the-pond mission. Glad we got rid of those fools!!!

Actually, having some fool try and kill me going into Germany in the middle of a freak storm. I really thought I was going home in a box. In the words of the German airplane that tried the approach after us:

Departure "Reach XXXX say conditions on final..."
Reach XXXX "I have never been so scared in my life..."

Definitely not my worst situation, but we did shut down #3 on 456 a couple days ago. TR unlocked light, no pressure indication.

Actually, come to think of it, I don't remember a time I didn't declare an emergency when flying Fred. :p
