Will United renew contract with Mesa?

I think Mesa is safe and here is why:
1) Who can replace the Dash-8 flying?
2) Only three companies(CHQ, XJT, Skywest) have extra 50 seat planes that need a home. I don't think CHQ/RAH is ever going to get new flying from UA. XJT and Skywest are the wild cards my guess is the RFP is going to be short and is going to be at a loss for who ever wins it. So it comes down to who needs to place aircafts the worst and my money is on Mesa.

You're assuming United is replacing the 50 seat flying. Actually they are but with CRJ7s and E170s. Mesa can't afford to take anything "at a loss" right now. They need to reorganize.

They'll renew it. I don't think United is in a position to sign a new contract big enough to cover all that flying or find homes for all those planes.

Just to be a nit picker, this isn't a renewal of a contract -- the current CPA with Mesa gives UA the option to give notification by October if they want to downsize the current contract, with 6 months notice.

EXACTLY what I've been trying to say. But some here apparently think its some sort of renewal and do not know all of the facts apparently.

I think it's great to have someone on these forums who sits on both the United and Mesa BODs.

I'm betting Skywest will get the bid. I have to hope there is some desire for these companies to improve their service. Of course, I'm always wrong about these sort of big biz moves. If United is anything like Delta, they'll do whatever makes the least sense.

(some awful, random, hateful spill about bottom feeders.)

Funny Charlie Fox.... However lets get the thread right. There was no contract to be renewed. Let alone all the people on these forums HOPING for Mesa to fold just like Mr Trip7 himself. Its disturbing to think one is hoping their airline will grow due to anothers failure... Fact of the matter is nothing much is going to happen for a little bit still. Until then perhaps we all should not sit back hoping for more people to be on the street.

I'm so far out of the loop these days that this is nothing but base speculation but I don't know if UA wants to give SKYW much more flying. SKYW already does the majority of UAX work, giving SKYW more work does 2 things which are not advantageous to UA:
1) Puts more eggs in 1 basket, UA would be in a world of hurt if something happened to SkyWest
2) Gives SkyWest more negotiating leverage.

Well, we know there's an RFP out there. However, we DON'T know what it's for. Is it for Mesa's flying or is it for additonal flying to replace what they're downsizing at mainline? Who knows, and the people bidding on it (rightfully so) aren't talking. As for the Dash-8s, Colgan would no doubt be happy to take those on. If you believe the little birds talking around here (and one of those is the one that leaked the "We're buying Colgan" rumor to me, to which I laughed in his face and apologized a week later), United's been in Memphis a couple of times already. Now, the Pinnacle guys are all talking "We're getting United flying," but I'm not so sure it's 9E that they're looking at. It could very well be 9L.

As for the RFP, another inside source said the top three in the running were Skywest, Pinnacle and (sit down for this one) Air Wisconsin. Now, I'm sure the same thing is being said over at ASA and XJT, just replace one of those three with wherever said person is working.

Truth won't be known for a LOOOONG time, I'd wager.

Mr. Trenary has made it very clear that they are actively looking for SAAB replacements, he mentioned specifically the ATR (42?) and the Q200.

There is a rumor that the SAAB electrical systems is AD'd to be replaced in 2012, but I cannot find the AD.

They don't make the dash-200 anymore, if I'm not mistaken. You could get a bunch of 100s easy, but those won't work for the Denver routes very well.

I think they have told PNCL that they will open the production line again for 30 aircraft. This includes the Q300, too.

I'd be surprised if they did, if they start making 200s its not like they can continue making 400s at the same rate and they seem to be all the rage these days, but who knows.
