Why JC is awesome.

You're hired.
Nope. I've been in the "A Bay" and I hate it. I don't like being in a spot that I can't easily get out of. I'm also kind of useless as an inspector on Gulfstreams since I refuse to get up on the horizontal anymore. Kinda weird how these phobias manifest themselves as we age.

Funny you should mention that. Had a couple of dudes come by to look at the old crotchrocket today. No racetrack here, but even if there were, I think those days are past. Every time I get on it, anymore, it's about 95% "what is about to try to kill me?" and 5% "this is freaking awesome". That ratio used to be Inverted. If you'll pardon the expression! At this rate I'm going to be on a Goldwing in a couple of years.

Man, thank goodness JC is thread-drift friendly.

PS. Having made that admission, I really hope you change your mind and join us. Because I can just about guarantee that @CK will make sure you're in the "A Bay", then come by banging on the fuselage and screaming "FIRE!@" We have a particular sense of humor, you see...

Skip the 400 and get the 5. It's an honest airplane, loooong legs. I like it more than a Global. The Global is finicky, have to turn on stuff in a certain sequence or it gets mad, almost as bad as a 7X or 2000EZ. A G-V will just run and run and run. Of course a G-IV is even better if you don't need 6000 mile legs, problem is they've been so cheap for so long that a lot of them have been purchased by people that have no business owning a large cabin jet.

I'm a fan of the elaborate paint schemes.

Haven't heard THAT rumor yet, but the really early Vs are starting to come down in to the territory of the...eh, let's call ourselves "frugal". My sense is that the new plan involves quality over quantity (relatively speaking), so who knows, that could happen, too.

Made me laugh and remember a story a friend told me about being moved from one crappy place to another in a Tu-95 (IIRC).
The fuselage isn't pressurized on that thing and only the office up front and the tailgunner's station are and there's nothing but a crawl tube to get from one to the other.
So riding up front and discussing the view the tailgunner's quarters are brought up and my friend is told that the view out of the cockpit is nothing compared to the one in the rear. Matter of fact, the guy on that gun used to be a pilot and quit for the view.
So the offer is extended to go and check it out. The friend is a sizeable SpecOps guy, barely fits in the tube, but starts the journey back. Halfway there he encounters the tailgunner crawling in the opposite direction - apparently there's not enough room for two people back there, so they need to go back to the cockpit first.
Backing up butt first my friend about made it when he saw stars in his eyes accompanied by horrid noises and screaming about being hit.
Getting your ass zapped with 28V and banging on the tube was apparently the rite of passage for jumpseating with that crew

Man we really need to get you and @Fencer together for an "Ask me anything" about Glorious Frontal Aviation! There's a whole 50% of the slapstick humor and hilarity of the Cold War we haven't really been exposed to!

Edit: TU-95 wouldn't be Frontal Aviation, would it? I hang my fake sort-of-Russian-screen-name's head in shame.

Hey I just have friends with stories, that's all. Was too young to fly for the Soviet Union and the country that came after didn't need military pilots.
@Fencer did some long range flying back in the day if I remember right.
Ты на стратегах летал или я путают?

Give yourself some credit, comrade. You had posters of MiG-29s on your wall and you knew about their relative performance to the F-15s of the Yankee Imperialist Running-Dogs, nyet? In all earnestness, I think it's fascinating to hear the stories of The Other Side. You know, now that they're no longer The Other Side. Quick, before they are, again! :D :/

Я ноль процентов русский. Не знаю Россию из дыры в земле. Так же, как их стиль. Спасибо, Google Translate.

I saw this in person sitting on my dad's shoulders - will this qualify? :D

It's a little late to try to parse that out, but I'm reading that Admiral Kirov sat on your father's shoulders. He must have been a small man. Admiral Kirov, I mean. ;)

That's pretty awesome, though, for real.

I just know that NetJets is verrrrrrry hard on airplanes. Certainly awesome to be getting some larger cabin airplanes though.
Well, the 2000 is a good bit smaller than the challenger so bigger isn't the question, but newer is. I couldn't care less about your disdain for NetJets, but from flying it I've seen that they are in very good shape and have been taken care of on the MX side. When they get out of the paint shop and have the new interior, I'm sure they'll be very nice. The first two are in paint now, but they will look similar to this.

I took 4 years of Russian and I still have no idea what that means.

That's a sharp paint scheme.
