Why don't you have your PPL yet?!

First Post, Long time fan, first time user of JC

Don't worry. It actually took me over four years to get my PPL. Granted, I decided along the way that I was not going to pursue a career in professional aviation (I finished it because I was well on my way and wanted to protect the "investment" that I made in it). But it can be extremely difficult to make ends meet in college, not to mention throwing getting your PPL in on top of that. People are competitive and demeaning to their peers like that in many walks of life, but its usually those people who are the real jerks. One of my buddies, who goes to law school, says some students tear the pages out of books so other students can't read them. Its crap, but what do you do? Just keep plugging away and you'll get to where you need to be sometime in the not-too-distant future.

What do you fly over at STC? 152's? I'm headed over there tomorrow to hopefully put some time in on a 172 and fly over SJU, where I go to school. Looks like it might rain though...

When your peers are still paying of their loans 20 years from now you can ask them what's taking so long :)

KRO,

I fly 152's and sometimes 172's. Our planes have "character" :)
I was out washing all the Aero Club aircraft today. It was great to give them a bath!!

Lack of money is a valid reason for taking your time.

Next time anyone says something to you about this....Yawn in their face.
and say "If your opinion had any relevance at all in my life, I might be offended"

Seriously though, you will get more out of your training by paying for it yourself. Money has more value to you, when you work for it. Borrowing delays the sting, and getting it from Mom and Dad doesn't make you realize how hard it is to make that kind of cash. You are doing things the right way.
