Why David Clark ...?

If that 5'4" joke tried to put my head in a vice, he would be flatfish, or however you say sole in Eyetalian after I was done stomping him flat. Just stating the facts...
You've obviously never seen Casino.

Ya Jordan,
I've seen it. Very entertaining...
I grew up in KS and OK. Wonder why mob shows are never set there? If that shrimp showed up to any of my buddies house, he would learn why number 4 shot brings down pheasant so well at 100 yds. If they didn't decide to bounce him like a basketball for fun first...

Yeah!! see my point?

Would wheatfields and soybeans be equally intimidating???:D
They don't conceal as well... but then again, he's not exactly Shaq.

haha, I was landing at some podunk airport in Indiana and looked down and saw a couple small rectangular clearings in a cornfield out there. Kinda made me wonder...

Must of been a crop circle, or square...
Many a maiden has lost her resolve to me during the fall tractor pull.

But on a totally different tangent, the greatest flying over KS and OK is that it one big landing strip if the prop ever stops turning...

After the thread hijack I must say I love my DCs.

Hmm, were you flying over Enos, IN?

haha nah, some place called Orleans. A 30 ft wide runway with lightbubls stuck in old tires alongside the runway and trailers right on the property. It's like a redneck Spruce Creek. Maybe Rothstein got his too.

Back on track, how comfortable are DCs? I know they're not gonna be as comfy as Boses and whatnot, but are they bearable for 2+ hours? My current headset starts killing my ears after about an hour. My ears are usually sore for at least an hour after I get done flying.

I've got X11's and 13.4's. The X11s are superior in fit to anything I have ever worn to include Bose. I think the Bose are a little better on the noise reduction, but the DCs are a world above them in comfort.

The 13.4s are comfy, but not as comfy as the X11s or Bose. They do not clamp as much as some other brands I've worn, and their passive NR is amazing.

I think the best bet is to try multiple brands out and find out what works best for your personal noggin.

My longest trip with them was 4.1, no problem. Also did several trips for 7 hours and no problem. I remember at first they were a bit hard but either I got used to it or they stretched out.

I block about 5.8 five days a week with the aforementioned 15 year old 10-30s. No problem. I will say that when they were younger, that was not always the case. Maybe they've stretched out? Or my head has gotten even harder.

My older DC's needed an update a few years back and I called before sending them in. Got a work order and pretty soon had them back- with a bill for $162.
Called and queried the company's policy of not charging so much to student pilots. Next letter was a 'Paid in Full' from Customer Service.
That helped a lot!!

I have a set of DC's. They're a good headset and are very solid! However, I bought a set of Bose maybe 3 years ago and, I can't see using the DC's except as a backup! Which by the way, has not been needed!

DCs are bomb-proof for the most part. My H10-13XLs have 8 years and nearly 1200 hrs on them, still going strong. Sent 'em in 18 months ago, out of warranty, to get a short in one of the cords fixed and in addition to a new cord, ear seals, headpad, and mike muff, they also replaced the ANR modules with the latest generation--all free of charge.

My longest flights in them have been right around 5 hours, with no discomfort whatsoever. I've added an Oregon Aero sheepskin head pad, which is a must for the follicly-challenged. Soo comfy. My only complaint is that I really wish they'd add an MP3 player input jack.

As I've said before, whether DCs will be comfortable for you or not really depends on your head size. Most of the complaints of clamping force seem to come from guys with average or smaller-than-average heads. Guys with big melons don't complain of this anywhere near as much, and I think this is simply due to greater leverage against the spring-steel headband. DC does make a smaller headband, which may help people with smaller heads. The X11 uses a completely different design, I've never heard anyone complain of excessive clamping pressure with those.

I wear a 7.5 hat so not a huge head, but certainly not one of the smaller folks out there. The older DK headsets pre noise canceling I absolutely loved and didn't bother me at all. However, the new sets, every noise canceling set I tried which was 3 LS and 3 DK sets all were uncomfortable. Further, when I turned my head in certain directions the noise canceling was intermittent.

I wound up going with bose and there is a reason they are the top noise canceling head sets sold on the market for the last 3 years running. They are lighter, more comfortable, and have far better noise canceling which doesn't stop even when I shift around in my seat to grab items from the back. We will see if they last, that test I can only give through time.
