Where in Socal am I?

Why would that be, I pay property taxes in Orange County...

Damn using your logic... Ventura is area code 805... Lompoc area code is 805... Santa Maria area code 805... San Luis Obispo is 805... Santa Barbara area code is 805... Oxnard area code is 805... Santa Ynez area code is 805...
Santa Paula Area code is 805...

So according to you it's gotta be central california...

Your really taking this seriously aren't you? Regardless, Orange County is considered an entirely different region; The Peoples Republic of the Orange Curtain, hence your opinion is null and void.

By the way, is your username after the famous electric chair in Florida?

If Santa Paula got an ILS approach that's real news to me. Pretty safe bet it will never happen with that piece of granite 1/4 mile away.

Oh, I get it now. Comprehension FAIL on my part. I thought you meant something completely different.

What about Simi Valley (home town), Moorpark (Krap room spelt backwards), Thousand Oaks, NewBerry park, Camarillo, Westlake (certain parts), there is like 20 cities in Ventura County that are. All also So-Cal areas. Thats where my logic came from. But mo one said I was smart.

Rumor has it you've got a new boss?

Actually Cody...

[yt]ZCiO5BQU9h4[/yt]

Yeah, add one more boss to the party. This new guy only brings my boss count up to 7, so at least I still have something to work towards. ;)

(And what's all this fussing about where the line between Northern California and Southern California runs?? If it's in the north, it's Northern California, if it's in the south, it's Southern California...is that so hard? The. End.)

You're right! All those are 805 as well.

As far as approach control goes, it doesn't matter much to Santa Paula... last time I flew through Pt. Mugu Approach, they weren't accepting VFR requests/flight following.

Humm... I've not been denied in 8 years. I guess your luck sucks!

Nah, they have been trying to force the hand of a radar upgrade. So they have been denying anything but IFR service to all airplanes. I don't know if it's still going on though.

Weird. I've never had a problem with them. Today was no exception.

Yeah I talked to Walt a while ago (one of the controllers) on the phone. This was maybe 5-6 months ago though. I was instructing out of SZP at the time, and on the radio and over OXR and CMA's ATIS it was because of "reduced radar coverage." But the secret hand shake revealed it was because they wanted/needed an upgrade from the 1970's green screens. They still had to pick up a phone to coordinate a hand off/get an airspace transition/be informed of an IFR departure/etc. Not the modern system where you highlight the airplane, and send a flashing airplane onto someone else's screen with a message.

When I was teaching in some beater prehistoric aircraft last year they did seem to always have 'problems' with my transponder but somehow seemed to make it work out. Maybe this is what was going on.

They know me down there, but I've never been turned away for flight following, except for the obvious "The radar is broken, we're not even giving radar separation to IFR airplanes" times with a published NOTAM.

My conversations with Camarillo ATCT indicate that you pretty much hit it on the head, though - all handoffs are done by interphone (and sometimes not at all). Maybe they'll give us an airspace redesign along with the new radar... :insane:

How about El Toro?
In the olden days when my father was stationed at El Toro, me and my brother would go to the drag strip not too far from there. As loud as the funny cars and rails were, when a F-4 Phantom would take off in full burner we could hear it. Of course, standing on the ramp there watching was almost better than going to the drags.
