65 miles northwest of Los Angeles and 14 miles east of Ventura is considered California's Central Coast... Even though they use socal approach...

Actually So Cal is considered to go from Ventura to San Diego. So, yeah, it's still in So Cal. Serious error from a non-local. I think the burdon of beer has been re-directed! I expect mine in Vegas!

Edit to add: So-Cal's airspace stops well before there. It's Mugu App. around there, or LA Center depending on altitude. A perfect example is to see the Aerobatic box just to the east of there. The AFD says to contact Mugu App. for activity status.

Oh, ok...That explains your confusion... As any 3rd generation resident will tell you, along with the State of California, Oxnard (oxr) located 13 miles to the south of Santa Paula is the borderline for the California Central Coast...
Northwest of Los Angeles, Oxnard stands as the entrance to California's Central Coast and represents all that the Central Coast has to offer-a progressive cultural diversity wrapped in historic California-style.

The reason I call it So-Cal is #1, aera code, #2, it's still a part of Ventura County, #3, the climate is the same as the other "southern" regions, and #4, the news channels are the same.

It's a matter of perception as the wiki notes support. In the ancient days (pre-1970s), anything north of the Los Angeles basin was the hinterlands. Figuratively speaking Oxnard was part of the central coast. Then came the hordes. This resulted in a redistricting that would warm the heart of any Democrat.
Nonetheless, everyone has always wanted to detach from SoCal and this continues to this day. To do so, geographical borders became less important while contrived cultural differences became vogue.
My personal line is Pt Conception. Many agree with that. At least it allows the fantasy that the Barbarians in SB are kept at bay.
I hope to hell this mid-term election results in wresting SLO County away from the jerrymandering wrought by that witch, Lois Capps.
