I got "StePHen" on my 5 year letter. I doubt the former Red Tail guys at mainline are going to get "Thanks for being at Northwest for 10 years and Delta for 5 year" stuff. We're merged at this point, so I don't see why anyone would get Mesaba stuff anymore either.
/rant, may want to skip
Well for instance there are guys from express one at both our companies who were at express one before Pinnacle was a company, it all seems so disingenuous. I'm not a fan of the corporate crap, that really isn't a reflection on Pinnacle as much as it is general corporate nonsense. It's also resoundingly hollow when your name is misspelled, or the captain I was flying with was named as a base manager and flight ops manager (he was neither) on the cheap printed stock.
Personally, if I was a Red Tail or a Delta guy and I'd hit the top of the payscale you could just let Corporate know I don't want to hear from them until I hit my retirement age. I wouldn't mind hearing about how many years I'd been there if there was still a pension I would be receiving after I bailed. Well, I suppose there are still a lot of Red Tails who still have their pensions, so maybe I wouldn't mind, but if I remember right they are still frozen and it would be a reminder no matter how much more I put into the company I wouldn't be getting anything out.
/rant end
That was a little winded so I'll summarize. It's corporate mumbo jumbo, and it makes me flaccid. I wish they'd just say, "We treat you like crap, we aren't sorry, but thanks for coming in and doing a good job anyway." It's a giant bag of stupid at this company; they are graceless, tactless, inept, and it shows every time they half heartily put on their "we love our employees" hats.
Although, I say "merged." We're still obviously three different pilot groups that have been shotgun weddinged together. I'm not even involved with the union anymore. "Union" doesn't even begin to describe it when the reps still call people "Pinnacle" and "Mesaba" pilots. At least we're all on the same page as far as wage concessions go, though.
That will get better after a time, so far there's been no time to enjoy you guys except in the jumpseat. Plus every time I see a Pinnacle jumpseater I wonder if this will be the day I'll meet John Hunter, *shiver*. Nope, what company needs is a giant team sport where both sides get divided up and made to play with one another. Know what? Already happening in MSP. Hell we get Pinnacle guys coming into our crew room in MSP, never get to see that at any other base. Both sides need to make an effort, they aren't. In Kennedy it's been such a joke walking into that crew room time after time, except now we actually get to start wearing the uniforms on the 21st. Betcha the dirty looks will stop then.
The Merger has been mismanaged by the Pinnacle inbreds, we should have been one uniform a year ago, that's not our fault. We as pilots are at fault for the lines continuing to be drawn, because we let the stress of union elections, SLI, and contract negotiations divide us.
In the end we are all embarrassingly selfish brats who don't want to play with each other when we were tossed into the same room together, and you know what
?, that probably can be said about any pilot group on their first merger. We will get there in time, however, not in time for most everyone to have moved on to Spirit, VX, JB, and a smattering of other companies. No one leaves Delta or NW because they don't like the merger, this is a junk job and not worth the stress of a merger. I know people like to pretend they are above that sort of thinking, but ignoring the reality doesn't help. This job isn't worth the stress, thankfully, it's only as stressful as you want to make it.
At least the Mesaba, Colgan and post-contract new hires get their pay raises on time. I "celebrated" six years at 9E last week. Still have to wait until May for my pay raise.....
Is that a part of that DOH vs sim training thing you explained to me on the phone?
