What's the deal with anti-Leather jackets?

I would tend agree, but the two are intertwined and have been linked since the birth of scheduled air carriers. Where might the typical design for the current pilot uniform be based from?......The military officers uniform, primarily the Naval Officers dress blue uniform. Pretty much the same uniform in slightly altered to the civilian world. If the miltary can wear a leather flight jacket in uniform and look professional, why can't an airline pilot who wears pretty much the same uniform design wear a leather flight jacket and not look professional as well?

I think you already answered your own question: the uniform was modeled after the military dress uniform, specifically because PanAm wanted to create an image of prestige and elegance. Leather doesn't scream prestige, it screams average joe on his Harley.

Kinda gay, huh!

True if you remove the kinda part.

I'm all pro on JC discussions, I love staying on the sideline and reading them but this is just crazy. One guy likes leather jackets, the other doesn't, sweet.

You're not his mother to dress him.

It is crazy . . . isn't it? . . . .but look at my post count, I'm on the way to old skool now biotch!:rawk:

If you don't wear a lether jacket with sewn-in epaulets, a hat, aviator sunglasses, an american flag tie, moustache, and have a Batman-syle utility belt of little gadgets and electronic devices strapped to your hips, and use CEO's first names like you two are old fishing buddies, then you're a complete toolbag IMO.

Bonus points for wearing your sunglasses in the terminal while talking on the cell phone, or, of not wearing them, then hanging them off your epaulets. Yeah. That's kickass.

LOL! Funniest thing I've read in a while! Here at DFW I've lost count how many AA pilots wearing American flag ties I've seen...And the moustaches:) They always remind me of an 80s fighter pilot! I agree with the poster who said short sleeves with a tie look worse than any jacket/slack combo. That look always brings back memories of Al Bundy's shoe salesman attire.

BTW: I just recently bought an A-2 leather jacket that I am very proud of, so nobody start talking bad about them now. :rawk:

You know how I know you're gay?

You're arguing about leather jackets.

Name the movie I stole that from.

As a brand new member I felt compelled to chime on on the most popular topic of the moment. And all I have to say is...

"Jet Careers - Reality Show"

"As the Prop Turns - Episode IV: Jetcareers"

Which I guess is kind of ironic.. "As the Prop Turns ...... Jetcareers" Hahahaha. Okay, that was a lame joke. :cwm27:

nah, you're all wrong. It's the 'Biggest Loser'!!!! :panic:

Or, maybe it's 40 Yr Old Virgin. ;)

Oh, I'll bet you we've got enough non-aviation material here to at least make a, uhh, PILOT for a reality television show.

Marriages, divorces, hook ups, love triangles, babies, death, success and defeat, patron saints and Judas, it's all here in an average week. You've just got to play close attention!

Perhaps I should keep track for a couple of weeks and make a color-coded line-chart.
