What's the coolest thing you've done in an airplane?

That's funny because I watched it in mute. Youtube fail for me. You see the "things fighter pilots/fighter pilots wives don't say" videos? Pretty funny stuff.....

"There is a HURRICANE warning? Yeah you need to take that jet and fly it somewhere safe.....don't worry about us, we'll be just fine" (my wife loved that one after I did the same thing when Sandy came)

"I don't think I hit the right target all day long.....I feel like I didn't have enough maps in the cockpit"

"WHAT???? Your night sortie got weather cancelled???!!! OH NO!!!!"
 
Beating up the pattern at KTTS was pretty fun. We arrived after a five hour low-level down the Appalachians followed by a VFR leg off the coast from Charleston to Canaveral. We just did a few touch-and-goes, but seeing the facility up-close and from the air was pretty cool. The Mate-Demate Device was still near the runway. One strange feeling: pushing the throttles up passing the 12 board on a touch and go.

But it was pretty awesome when me and DPApilot took some 5-hour energy models flying randomly. There were 3 of them, so we took 2 at first, one waited at a gazebo by the taxiway while I flew the first 2 around. Tower let me shut down on a taxiway, one model hopped out, the other one hopped in, and this older pilot who was there with his grandson just stood at the gazebo trying to figure out what was going on. It was pretty awesome.

On that same note, my last flight at Brand X was a round trip between DFW and Tallahassee in the midst of a tropical storm. And ironically Miami actually cancelled their flight to TLH right after we got on the ground. With a Navy reserve, hurricane hunter in the left seat—and he made it my leg—and the ILS was out, so that was educational.

We landed, they closed the ramp, we had to wait for them to re-open the ramp, then we fired up and got out of dodge. Never seen so much water falling from the skies in my life. I was surprised at how smooth and stable it was, though.

I wouldn't say it was cool, but it was certainly "interesting."

I was on a jumpseat for a landing like that in LIT. Felt more like I was on a boat than in an airplane. I still see bits of jumpseat cover fabric when I poop even though it was over two years ago. We saw runway lights....sorta...and still landed. Visibility wasn't bad due to fog or mist, just rain hitting the windshield.

Was glad to have made it home for the evening, but not until it was all over.

We got to fly back out of it. Having successfully flown in, we thought that this was reasonable.

(this is not always reasonable or prudent.)

I like hurricanes. Hurricanes are stable. Hurricanes are predictable. Even if I can't fly through it, I know where it's going to be and when it's going to be there.

It's the thunderstorms a couple miles north and west you have to worry about.
 
I got couple, I know it sounds more like "What's the coolest thing you've carried in an airplane?" but I had fun doing it

Flown 1.8 in a 206 to pick up 50 Lobsters just for a lunch BBQ

Flown with Miss Australia in the copilot seat

Flown high end authorities of the French govt

....got a friend that has flown Jackie Chan in a G8 AirVan out of a Volcanic ash plane strip
