What would you do (pinnacle)

I believe it's trading a little bit of job security for a lot of QOL.
I'm thinking career progression is part of this as well. Getting stuck at a $40,000 /yr job without some sort of resume boost beyond total time doesn't sound all that appealing. Then again the legacies may not care about TPIC and such here soon. It is all just a big gamble.

What RJ captain is making $40k/yr? A senior RJ captain is a lot closer to $100k. Career progression is great and all, but nothing beats QOL.

If I can summarize my thoughts, when I was younger and had no kids it would've been a no-brainer. I would've went to the first place that hired me and never looked back. Now that I have family, I want to be around them as much as possible. There will always be uncertainty in this industry. Just look at the recent Boston terror attack. If something like that happens to an airline again, all the legacies will cut back again. I know I am of the minority, but I do actually think this Delta program will work. I'm just sick of chasing the dream by going to job fair after job fair with no results. The airline I have always wanted to work for is offering me an interview. Until they take that away I see no reason to turn it down

You mean you always wanted to work for NWA :D

I never saw where he was a captain. His posts don't mention anything about that. I figured someone looking to leave would be an FO or a captain looking at downgrade.

If a CHQ captain was on 1st year pay and never went over 75 hours, it would be $45,000

Family life aside, catch the first flight out of purgatory. Seriously, get out.

You have no idea if 9E will even be around in 4 years. If your going to be furlough fodder, at least do so at a major airline.

I've been gone over a year now, and there isn't a single day that I look back and wish I had done anything different.

Delta Crew planning has said they are going to hire about 500 or less people TOTAL in 2014. 9E's union is really pumping up the SSP because they know people are bailing too quickly. NO one has been hired yet through the SSP so you have no idea if it will work as planned, how long have you been at 9E? It seems to me you need to move onto any major ASAP. The days have changed, it is back to "get your time and get out"

Where exactly did the 9E union pump up the SSP? I read the last hotline on the SSP and it only said that there are still many details to work out and they didn't know yet. Also, why would they want to stave off attrition? Anybody that leaves voluntarily is just preventing an involuntary furlough later.

Think about this. How many rumors did we hear in our time at 9E? How many of them actually happened, or at least how many of the GOOD ones actually happened? I'm more inclined to believe the rumor is floated out there by someone higher up the chain to a) see what happens and b) keep people from bailing left and right once the Summer Suck comes around. Delta's likely not even going to interview until the end of this year at the earliest, so I'd imagine the details of the SSP are low on the priority list. If you're waiting on details, you'll likely see them in a year, maybe longer.

I'd do what Higney said and make the list of pros and cons. Commuting blows, yes. But I'd rather be commuting to where I am now than living in base at Pinnacle. Then again, Delta wasn't even in my top 5 choices of places to work, so my priorities are going to be different than yours. Another thing to keep in mind is a guaranteed INTERVIEW is not the same as a JOB. If you interview elsewhere and get the offer and turn it down because the SSP is around the corner, that may come back to bite you if you get a "thanks but no thanks" from Delta. If it were me, I'd likely jump on a job offer if I got one. I can tell ya, even with the commute, I don't regret bailing on Pinnacle one bit.

This.

The corpses of Independence Air, ACA, WestAir, Comair and others are giving a thumbs up from the grave.

If the name on the side of the jet doesn't clearly match the Employer box on your W-2, no matter what management says or what their capacity contract says, it can all go away tomorrow.

Was just in recurrent this week. A high ranking official of the MEC very clearly stated they believe people will begin getting interviews by end of this year. No official numbers were given as to how many they expect to start going but they said they believe it will greatly amplify the attrition we've already been seeing. Attrition currently has been said to be coming mostly from the senior FOs and junior CA. This is just what I picked up from what they were saying. Take it FWIW.

I do agree with your query about attrition though. Why should the union try to stave of attrition? Do they not have our best interests at heart? Don't they want to see us get out of the suck? I'm so confused why they would want me to stay!? o_O

So far the union has distanced themselves from projecting any sort of good news coming out at this place. Some union reps who feel they are in the know have texted their buddies saying crap like "hehehe, those guys that left for GoJet's are going to be regretting it. LOL! Saucer?" but nothing has happened.

I feel like I've been honest with our chances at being around in a year or two. If I had something bright and sunny to say I would have said it. If Delta can't find a way for us to make money we won't be around. Delta, so far, has done nothing to create that value, and from what I've seen we can't shrink into net profitability at this airline because training bubbles will never go away. The only way this place is useful is if they were overstaffed with driven employees willing to stick it out with Pinnacle- because by God, they've done alright by me- and there was a pilot shortage at the regional level. We're just an overstaffed airline that is shrinking down to 80 airplanes right now. We still need to lose more than 1000 guys.

The good news is I get some of my money back next month Pinnacle decided they weren't going to pay me. Fill out your grievance papers boys and girls. Yes, even if your local reps are lazy, pathetic, leeches (as some on this board have complained about reps at their repective airline), someday someone might come in who gives a crap and will work hard for you to get you the money you are owed.

During our focus meeting, one of the VIPs coming through was from "Colgan air" I nearly coughed up my ice tea when I saw the company name.. Turns out there's a small operator that uses the same name... Wonder how many calls they fielded post buffalo ...

Anyhoo...

I think Seggy used a small major in lieu of united until he got his class, ask him how it went.

No matter which airline you end up at, management has zero loyalty towards you. You are a cost, a liability that stands between them and money. They will use and abuse you. I would have no remorse taking a job for 5 months then splitting

Odd, seeing as Delta isn't really planning to ramp up hiring until January or so based on what people actually at Delta are saying. Sorry, I have very little faith in anything that comes out of that MEC. Been burned too many times by rumors from high ranking union officials. Most of the time it turns out to be wishful thinking for something that will help them out....

I can tell ya, I see plenty of familiar names on the CP's door over here of guys that are waiting on class dates. Most of them are junior CAs. A couple of guys that were senior to me when I was still at 9E, though.

I'm right there with ya. Just wanted people to know this is the story they're giving out to everyone in the training pipeline.

There have been some very good points on here. I especially took notice of the one that said all the rumors of pinnacle have mostly not come true. I can attest to that. Since I started at pinnacle nothing good has happened besides the joint contract which is now gone as well. There has always been talk of 700s and more 900s as well. The only fact we have though is that we will be an 81 airplane fleet in 2 and a half years
