What we've got here is failure to communicate

I think in the 121 environment if you need to use superior stick and rudder skills, you have done fornicated up.

As I said, I don't think that was an issue with these guys. They just seemed, well, I dunno, like it was 1948 and we could just go barge off on some plan and no one was watching or paying attention. Just fly on the right side of the lighted airway and put the times the captain wants in the logbook. That would be wrong even if the plan was sound, but the the fact that its usually a scheme that doesn't survive the briefest review makes it worse.

In my case and in Derg's, there wasn't even an attempt to explain the rationale, acknowledge the concern, or even provide an excuse ("I gotta get home because I need to see the ex in court"). Just a "Why are you talking? We're going".

Note that this doesn't include guys/gals that are intentionally off in the weeds in a different way. I flew with a guy during previous bad times (1000+ on furlough) who openly admitted that he did favors for the Company outside the contract (bad enough), but also he could give zero flucks about pilots on furlough (yes, he said exactly that).

What irks me is when regional pilots straight up lie during PAs. Horizon and skywest guys always say “alaskan flight xxxx”. When I was at ExpressJet we woulda been murdered if we said “continental flight xxxx”. Maybe times have changed and the little kids can pretend to be big kids...
*Alaska. Also, that’s what we and the FAs are told to say. Delta Connection, United Express, Alaska. No idea what American is. Eagle, I guess? I thought that was an airline.

But whatever.

Be less irked.

The "little guys pretending to be big guys" does remind me of how US Airways used to treat the 170 like a mainline airplane. Bag won't fit? Nope, we don't do carry-on tags, it's getting gate checked all the way through." And they'd exclusively park them at the mainline gates (probably because of jetways, but still)

That's because the 170s were a mainline airplane until Mid Atlantic shut down.

The purpose of a collective bargaining agreement isn't just to protect oneself from the Company, but also from your fellow pilots.

He says Alaskan on purpose. Some VX guys just can't get over it.

I jumpseat on you guys and Horizon a bunch on the E175s, they say Alaska and I always figured it was just what the company guidance was. I highly doubt these guys say [mainline, flight#] just so they can sound 'cool.'

I think I can guesstimate what happened in this video. A preteen PAX showed up drunk and dressed like a pilot and wanted to see the cockpit, CA said “nope you got the tie all wrong” PAX got pissy and threw a fit.
