What plans and phones is everyone using?

I have an iPhone 5 with AT&T. I'm on the 10 gig share plan that gets divided up between my wife and her iPhone and my iPad mini. 10 gigs is plenty. I can even download current charts and NAV data on the iPad and still never get close to going over. With crappy hotel wifi charts can take hours. Tethering your phone to a wifi tablet is also an option, but since my iPad is my primary flight planning device I wanted some redundancy.

I'm not sure if the Verizon or CDMA phones still do this, but they would always run themselves dead trying to search for a signal while flying, or out in the middle of nowhere (if you didn't turn them off). I never had this problem with a GSM phone (AT&T). AT&T is starting to do roll over data on the share plans now.

Perhaps this is true, being that Apple products are way overpriced.

Everything is overpriced (cost-plus) in a free market.

No one is selling anything at "cost" unless it's a loss-leader or they really don't want to stay in business very long.

I'm still using an old HTC EVO4g that I rooted. Does everything I need so I haven't upgraded in quite some time, but I'll probably go with a Galaxy sometime next year. As far as plans, I'm on the unlimited Sprint plan, with discount it comes to exactly $79.99/mo. 450landline min, unlimited calling to mobile on any network, unlimited texts and data. That's the biggest for me, since I easily blow around 3-6gb of data per month. Everyone hates on Sprint and while they're definitely not the best, I've never had any issues, except for loss of data in some seriously podunk towns.

The AT&T logo came and destroyed my home planet of Alderaan ,and so I'm now forced into submission. I tried to talk them into another target, but they said it was too far away to be an effective demonstration of their power.

Hmmmm. Now I have a craving for cinnamon buns. What's up with that?

It's only 0814 here at JCWHQ and you, sir, have already won the internet.

Republic wireless moto x as well. On a 25 buck plan with "unlimited" 3g data. They run on the sprint network, downside, but you can't beat 25 bucks for a cell phone with data.

We went from att paying 250 a month to now paying 85 with taxes for the same number of lines.

I've got the iPhone 5s on T-Mobile. The phone is great though each successive version of iTunes gets more and more frustrating to use. I'm somewhat happy with T-Mobile. Their LTE speeds are very fast, noticeably more than Verizon's (I have a mobile hotspot through them), at least here in ABQ. T-Mobile's biggest problem is that once you leave the major metro areas, service gets really bad. Forget about data. Voice can be usable, though sometimes I don't get voicemail until hours later. That may be an iPhone thing, though. I'll be switching the phone to Verizon soon as T-Mobile doesn't seem interested in putting up new towers.

I don't like cinnamon buns. I find them a bit...chewy.

T-Mobile, Moto G.

And I was a looonnng time Verizon customer.

I think VZW has dropped their prices recently, but I cut my bill for 2 lines by $50/month. I was a long-time unlimited data grandfathered guy and that was hard to give up, but in reality I never used more than a of gig or so, so it turned out to be a non-issue.

The international data/text ultimately did it for me, but T-Mobile's network has been really solid where I use it the most, my house. (Weirdly, my house got awful VZW coverage and TMO's was great.)

The Moto G has been incredible for the price. It's really a fantastic phone.

Their network isn't as robust as Verizon's out in the boonies (Montana coverage is non-existent and you wind up on ATT with no data, for example) but in almost any metro area it's really good.

I did their test drive (they ship you an iPhone 6 to use for a week and see how you like their network), did a bunch of speed tests back-to-back on a 4-day trip and decided it'd work well enough for me and not having to worry about data/text roaming out of the US was worth it.

All that being said, VZWs network is still the best overall domestically, so if that matters they're a solid choice.
