What is your favorite low budget plane?

If it were to be an 'airplane,' I would pick an RV-8.

For what I would consider low budget though -

One of these will probably be the first airplane I buy. A decent one can be found for around 25k.

1946 Luscombe 8E. Does it matter that I already have it? I could use the money for mtc and annuals.

Cant beat a cub! theyre popular for a reason! ive flown champs too... doesnt compare to a Cub!

The biggest difference I could tell on the two was how much slower in climb the cub was, but that was due to the engine difference.

And with my Firebird's 305 as an aircraft conversion.
Seats four, not sure how fast with the 305.
And eventual conversion to rocket racing league!

Just so's you don't ding me with, 'Any engine's gonna cost $XX,XXX!'

That thing has put up some very impressive numbers with the Delta Hawk Turbo Diesel in it.

Give me a good ole late 60's Cessna 310 any day! My girl, N4169Q, would be in that price range...good speed, comfort, reliability, and doesn't completely break the bank on the cost per hour side of things.

A 1961 Cessna 320. N320K is my girl, a great airplane, fast, efficient, and doesn't make me cringe when I fill her up.

Plus it beats any 310! :)

Haha! A piper saratoga and pretty much ANY helicopter is going to be much more than 50k!

Actually, most of the Rotorway helicopters will fall into that price range. You can also find some Bell 47's (M.A.S.H. helicopter) and some Hiller's in that price range as well.

I'd have to agree with you on trying to find a Saratoga in that price range. Most likely will have to stick with the fixed-gear Cherokee Six.

The six is a ridiculously under-rated airplane compared to, say, the 206. They're amazingly simple, and for how cheaply built they are, ridiculously strong. They'll haul whatever you can put in the cabin all day long and never complain. Engines are reliable, and since parts commonality with the smaller Cherokees is quite high, parts are plentiful. The 206 wins for any type of short or unimproved field work though.
