What in the hell...

The video has been removed. If I piece the tea leaves together correctly, sounds like a guy I used to fly with. Absolute unorthodox lunatic but I enjoyed flying with him. Between playing cheezy 80's ballads on the PA, telling people: "we're gonna fly it like we stole it!" so forth, etc...the like, it was always a fun time. He did get pretty frequent lecturing in the CP's office. His choice, but I liked flying with the dude...better than the total squares anyway...lifeless blobs of dull, unintellectual, brainwashed mental servants, malleable lemmings and boot licking spaniels.
If you are using the word lunatic to describe someone, I do not want to share a cockpit with him. Give me the boring any day.

Goofy does not equal unprofessional. Some of you are just consumed by your sense of importance.

That was not goofy, that was pure cringe-worthy embarrassment, as is now obvious with the videos being taken down.

When I look at my uniform hanging in my closet, and think of all the hard work and sacrifice it took for me to reach this point....then I see a person act like this...it gives me gastrointestinal pains.

This isn't even about "the uniform" and what it took to get there as a pilot, it's about acting like a fool while representing your employer.

I've flown with plenty of guys who are fun to be around and fun to share an airplane with who don't go around a terminal on Heely sneakers or tell the pax that "They'll fly it like they stole it" when they're running late.

And to those saying "Whatever but he didn't break any rules", every company I've worked for has a social media policy.

I hope all this negative attention he is getting will serve as a wake up call. Maybe he needs to get on some meds.

Man, when I see my uniform hanging in my closet, I go hang something in front of it so I don't have to look at it on a day off. :D

Hmm.

I'm not an airline pilot, but I'm a frequent passenger. I found it at best mildly amusing, at worst, a little immature but harmless. I completely understand why you guys would feel embarrassed though.

He probably took it down because people like you are getting bent out of shape. I wouldn't do it because I am not that goofy nor do I have the time for it. But if a guy flying regional can have this much fun on a low paying job, maybe we can learn something from him. I am happy for him but it isn't that big of a deal.

Your overlords would be so proud. His overlords are proud as well. Hell the whole board just got a 3 million dollar bonus because you pilots keep taking it in the shorts, then making movies about how cool it is. No way would company get bent over this. It is the best recruitment tool in existence. And the indentured servants make the recruitment videos for their masters, with their own equipment.

Indeed. The thought police are hell bent on servile acquiescence. So much ripe fodder, sauce for the goose.

Bullcrap. Paranoid, bitter and delusional much????

No professional carrier on the planet is paying you to act like a "lunatic" or to make asinine comments to the pax or any of the crew for that matter. Pilots complain about not being treated like a professional..........then behave like one. Like it or not, you represent your company every time you are seen in public/at work. You are part of their branding and image. You want pax to see you acting like a teenager, wearing Heelys and rolling through the terminal? Really? What kind of example is that exactly? What sort of confidence does that instill in crews or pax?

How the hell are you going to maintain respect, mentor, be the role model/example, be taken seriously, have control, if you do upgrade? What will your peers think?? Oh yeah, you are the jack-off that made all the idiotic videos, acted like an imbecile and degraded our profession even further. Good job!

Every company has it's standards and various policies that you agreed to adhere to and follow as part of your employment with them, and only a self-serving moron who wishes no longevity in his career would be purposely setting himself in front of the Chief Pilot's desk doing a carpet dance on a regular basis.

One can be a professional and still have a great personality, a good sense of humor, relax when possible, have a good time/some fun when appropriate, and carry on some good conversations on a variety of subjects, be great to fly with, instill confidence, be a good communicator and have your crew's backs. If the only way you think you can enjoy your job is to behave like a fool, perhaps it's time to re-think that little mission. You should always set a positive and professional example and you can still enjoy your job. But in the end, it is a job, it's not Summer Camp.

There is ceaseless amazement to be had in the degree to which human beings will delight in the misfortune of another.
No, there is ceaseless head shaking at publicly degrading oneself, their professional and behaving like an immature fool. When you purposely act like a moron, embarrass yourself and your employer and use bad judgement on a regular basis, the consequences should be no surprise. You reap what you sow.

We're in the customer service industry. Our job is to provide what the passengers want. Most passengers don't want their Captain to be a bro-dude or a comedian. They want a grey-haired aviator with quiet supreme confidence.

There are jobs where being a bro-dude is okay. But we aren't selling jeans from a dimly-lit store at the mall that smells of axe body spray and has excessively loud dance music.

Hell, we got a memo expressly prohibiting the flashing wheels on rollaboards. Heelys are way beyond that. Not to mention that several airports actually ban the use of them on their property.
