What do you charge?

How are you doing anyway? Things going "ok" over there? Hope you guys get home soon.

Thanks Sean
Things are going well enough over here, definately have settled into a "routine". We too hope to be home soon, we started the very first week we were here making contacts (NETWORKING) with the right people who will get us out of theater on time.

Jim I'm not communicating my concepts very well. Let me try again.

1) A 300 hr commercial pilot can not charge the same as a 4000 hr pilot in most situations obviously!

2) BUT if you have a guy with 2000 hrs who meets the insurance requirements he should charge the same as the 4000 hr pilot.

You see what I mean? By qualified, I mean qualified in every sense of the word.

ALSO - You and I both know some 10,000 hr pilots who are accidents waiting to happen and by some grace of God have managed to survive without killing anyone yet. And we also know some 1500 hr guys who can fly rings around us.

It's not always about the total time!

John
Thanks for clearing that up, I actually agree with ya I just didn't know it. The word "qualified" is such a multi faceted word and we were looking at it from two different persepctives.

And you are so right (unfortunately) about there being 10,000 hr. pilots out there who are accidents waiting to happen. I once flew with one of these guys, actually I've flown with a few, anyways, I often said there was a village missing thier idiot and I knew where he was.

As far as a 1500 hr. pilot being able to fly rings around me, maybe in the traffic pattern CFI world, but not in the real day to day hard IFR world. I am a GOD!!! I joke!

Jim

LOL ok Mr. G!

I know there are 1500 hr freight dogs and 1900 FOs that are more current than I am right now.

I had to hand fly an ILS to minimums at TLH last night. It was ugly!

So if we're gonna go on the qual=cash argument, how come I'm not making 10 million bucks per year?

I think the answer is self-evident.

It's like I told the President of our company after a particularly long and hard day of flying in some pretty nasty WX ... I told him I don't get paid for what I do ... I get paid for what I don't do.

First: have LOTS of Bonanza and Baron time!

Contact Raytheon in Wichita. There's a contact sheet on their website.

$38 per hour or $200 per day plus expenses is a bargain. I fly all models of Baron and Bonanza aircraft and do exactly what you propose to do. I charge $350 per day PLUS expenses. Nobody ever gives me flack. Be professional and give your client their monies worth. Remember how much you have spent getting all of your ratings and certfications. My wife is a fitness trainer and gets $85 per hour to help people exercise!
A ski instructor gets $95 an hour to ski. These are the same people who buy and fly Barons. They are not slouches! Charge what you are worth! It's no wonder few CFI's can make it financially doing what we love to do. Good luck on your venture.

Thanks Danv35! I greatly appreciate the input. You know, it's funny that you responded to this thread because the issue STILL hasn't arisen.

The guy ended up buying a Seneca III after all. A damned nice one at that. I've spoken to him probably twice since.

He still intends on me being his pilot. His insurance requires I have 10 hours dual in the plane which he says he's arranging this month. We'll see.

But, I do greatly appreciate the advice! I, personally, believe you're right on the money (no pun intended).

Thanks again!
