What do you charge?

I've been approached by a guy that flies out of my FBO who is going to buy a Baron for his company plane and wants me to fly it both with him and when he's "in the back working."

We charge $38/hr. for "pilot services" for flight time and he's agreed to that, but it's the ground time for overnights we're needing to work out.

Someone suggested the flight time + $200/day + expenses (hotel & food).

Any thoughts? What is acceptable?? Please advise.

The flight time + $200/day sounds a bit high for a Baron.......but if you can get it, SWEEET!!

If I were you, I would nix the hourly and just ask for a daily rate. This is pretty standard in contract flying. That's great man! Good luck Stan!!

Cool. I wasn't sure what to charge him.... I did say that we'd "work something out between us."

As for what I'm worth? IMHO - a lot. I have the utmost confidence in my knowledge in skills. That's not the issue though. If I tried to charge him what I thought I was "worth", it'd be a no-go.

I want to be fair to both him AND me. He knows my deal. He knows this is my livelihood and he's not looking to do it "on the cheap". He's a fair man and I want to offer him a fair deal.... but, being new to this, I thought I'd ask my bro's at JC.

There's actually people out there like that. I'll admit this now since my former flight school is defunct but one of my better students asked "Hey, how much of the $35/hour do you get?"

I told him "$10!"

So he said, "Well, I'll just pay you $40/hr directly, how's that sound?"

"Great!"

Did about 50 hrs my first month and about 57 or so my second. Not too shabby. Crossed the 400TT mark yesterday!

I'm REALLY diggin' instructing! SO much more than I imagined I would.

Problem is, I don't get a whole lot of screen time at the FBO to log on to JC. It's in the line office and there are a ton of us competing for time on the `puter.

It's all good though. I've never enjoyed a job more than this one!
 
I certainly hope you people are charging more than $100/day plus expenses. Start thinking how much it cost to get your license and how long it would take to pay that off at $100/day. If you flew everyday you would make $36,500?

NO. not right!

My contract flying/sim work is paid at anywhere between $400-600/day plus expenses or pr diem. $400 for domestic usually and $600 for international.

A baron pilot should make $250/day minimum. And that's plus expenses.

Remember that anyone who can afford a baron can also afford a pilot.

Is that a flat fee? Flight/ground-time/expenses all rolled into one? Or is it $300/day + expenses.

In Duluth MN, they are offering $200 a day to instruct in SR-20's and 22's. So I think at least $250 would be reasonable to fly a Baron.
