What Airlines would you want to work for?

I\'ll take cargo ANY day . . .

No brainer for me:

UPS
FedEx
Atlas
Polar
Capital Cargo
etc.

Can't wait to be flying cargo with the big boys

Re: I\'ll take cargo ANY day . . .

Until I can find that job where I get paid not to work, I'd have to stay where I"m at. I was never one to send my resume to any and all companies and take the first bite. There's alot of crappy companies out there and alot of my friends did just that and are now waiting tables in an italian restaurant furloughed and bitter. More and more I look at a regional job as a careers choice so why not go to a good one. Who would leave a regional job with the potential to make 120g's a year to start over at a major?? Or even 80 a year? Besides, any flight over 2 hours is just plain boring. There's only so many dirty names you can type into the FMS til it gets boring:) That said, I would definately do cargo- FedEx or Brown.

For those wanting the MD-11, I know World Airways has 'em, flew on one coming back from Rhein-Main AB, Germany.

- the top two because of job security. Cathay and Southwest have never had lay-offs or paycuts.

Perhaps those are the ones to shy away from then ... what you're indirectly saying is they're due!

Re: I\'ll take cargo ANY day . . .

i really want to work for Singapore Airlines because their aircraft was my first ride when i came from Nepal to the united States and the other reason I like Singapore Airlines is because they are the National carrier for Singapore thus there is hardly a chance for them to go out of business thus a lot of job security and they pay good money.

Re: I\'ll take cargo ANY day . . .

Eh...to those who say don't be picky.... be very careful. Not being picky will put you on the street in a heartbeat. Just ask the guys that said yes to the job at USair that are now junior to me at my company. Think about what you want and what will get you there the fastest and most reliably. Apply to those companies...keep trying.

In this order:

FedEx
UPS
Northwest
maybe Continental
maybe Delta

Re: I\'ll take cargo ANY day . . .

Hmm, well let's see. I always wanted to work for TWA, and now they are gone. Then I set sights on ATA, and they are on the virge of disappearing. I really wanted to work at Chicago Express until I could get on with a major, and now they don't exist.

I think I'll just keep praying that ExpressJet lasts long enough for me to upgrade and keep from starting over at the regionals.

Hmmmm sounds like if you do ever choose a major that Southwest is in your future!

Yeah, I guess i'm not made for the international flying. I guess its a compromise whether you get your flying done in several legs or just a few. We operate Dash 8's and those guys fly 8 leg days with is nucking futs and they are worn out. I think 2 hours is just about right. Put in 3 legs and you're done for the day.

Re: I\'ll take cargo ANY day . . .

I might in the distant future want to do international.
But for now I want to fly intercontinental.
Like SEA-ATL,LAX-ATL,SLC-CVG,PHX-CVG etc.
I really want to fly 737-800/900,757/767/767-400ER or the 787 when it comes out!

Why cargo? I know they pay more (right now) but you would be flying boxes around and wouldn't get to interact with the passengers and crew.

Exactly the point, I think.

Re: I\'ll take cargo ANY day . . .

Boxes don't complain about paying $69 to go from BWI to LAX and not getting peanuts on the flight......

Re: I\'ll take cargo ANY day . . .

Most of my friends at the pax carriers say there's no interaction at this point anyway. Just sit behind the locked door like a prisoner.

Advantage of FedEx and UPS is a lot more variety of flying, opportunity to spend the bulk of your career as a widebody captain, flying International if you so choose, rather than the bulk flying a domestic narrowbody with perhaps a short time at the end of your career flying a widebody to just a few International destinations (relatively speaking, we go to many more places both domestically and International than any pax carrier does).

I am curious as to why one would rate either FedEx or UPS higher than the other, though. What is the thought process there?

Okay, since we\'re talking dreams

I wanna fly the 747.

It's never going to happen, even if I get hired tomorrow. Won't have the seniority to bid it ever, because I'm too old. I remember hearing that the guys who are flying those for UAL have like 25 years seniority at a minimum. If I got hired tomorrow, I'd get that at 61.

Yeah, I know the 380 will be bigger, and yes, I know the 787 will be newer.

I don't care. The 747 will always be the coolest in my book.
