Trying to commute home, and LAX TRACON tookba dump. Everything headed into or out of LA is apparently ground stopped.

It's been very HOT in Socal these last few days. Last night it was 94F at 8:35pm. All throughout the day cell towers were dropping offline. Just a guess though.

Have ya tried FedEx? It's amazing how they always seem to go, no matter what is going on.
I remember sitting on the taxiway in EWR one night, both shut down, APU running, waiting in a conga line for a storm to blow through. Watching crap fly around on the ramps...GSE getting pushed around. The planes rocking around in the wind.

And from behind us down the parallel come a FedEx DC-10 and MD-11 back to back, and both taxi by everyone and blast right off into it. The captain and I just looking at each other and our jumpseater like wtf just happened? Cojones, man.

Well, when Tom Hanks has his stopwatch out, the golden package has got to get going!

I think these two are involved

I saw the same thing in EWR, except it was with a Dash 8. Tower asks the guy to take an intersection, then back-taxi the entire length of the runway by-passing all of the jets waiting in line! Gutsiest thing I ever did...er, uh, saw.

Cojones? My child, my child. We take off in this stuff because our 1998 weather radar shows clear and a million on the ground. We don't know how not to take off into that stuff. :)
