Any of the other 121 companies have this language in their contract?
ASA does not, but it seems we have enough guys who are - after this latest furlough announcement - will be going from a mid-level seniority Captain position (and associated QOL) to a bottom level seniority Captain position (with the associated QOL).
It seems that there is a movement within these ranks to wish to displace themselves down to a senior FO position. Or, to have a higher paying FO displace himself/herself down to a lower paying FO position.
While that language is not specifically in our contract and our MEC and management are hashing out the details to set up such a system, there is language regarding upgrades, transitions, and moving down in pay between a higher paying and a lower paying aircraft seat. The condition is that you're seat locked for 24 months. Fine by me.
The reality is these displacements are coming. A fixed number of individuals will lose their seat to a lower paying one involuntarily without having a seat lock.
When things turn around, as I'm sure they will within 24 months, those who voluntarily displaced themselves to a lower paying seat will be stuck there. Then, when upgrades begin, those with lower seniority who did not voluntarily displace themselves will have higher relative seniority until all these 24 month guys become thawed.
Hopefully all of the above just made sense, if not - screw it. I can't think of a better way of explaining it.
Just wanted to get everyone's take on this and see if there is any company that currently has voluntary displacement language or willy-nilly voluntary displacements during a time of "no-forward-movement."
Much Love. Peace. God Willing.
