Actually "crianza" is not a type of wine but rather a stage in the aging of the Rioja wine, which is made mainly with Tempranillo grapes.
In Spain, and by extent Europe, wines are named after the region they're produced rather than the grape used.
What about Ribera de Duero and all the other D.O.s??
You Spaniards are very particular with the wine. My Suegro will poor seltzer in a crianza if you put it in front of him just to be a pain. I am not so particular but I'll fight a duel, pistols at 10 meters over a bottle of Vega Sicilia Gran Reserva 1986...
