UUUUUGHHHHHH today was a huge mess

Ground school instructor? Won't log time in the A320, might log some time in the sim, but big deal. Kristie's got about an hour of L1011-500 time but no airline is busting down our doors.

My current instructor is the typical guy that is just doing the CFI thing to log time for the airlines. He is a totally different instructor after the first couple months. He just doesnt care nearly as much anymore imo. The CFI gig has totally lost the excitement for him. You can tell. I dont even think he likes doing it anymore.

He told me he is thinking about going to go to NWA for the ground school sim instructor then hoping to get on an airline. He should just be patient and get his hours. He is insanely jealous of the guy who got hired with Pinnacle out of here with 280 hours. I told him that the guy came into talk to our ground school class and he immediately said he hated that guy.

The only thing that is preventing from telling this guy how I feel is that I dont want to burn any bridges. Good thing I should have a new instructor in about a week. And if things work out with the move to an FBO, Meritflyer could very well become my CFI. :nana2: I love this site.

Remember, you are the customer. If you must communicate in order to solve a problem, speak up and get results. Don't worry about burning any bridges - if you communicate effectively it won't cause any issues.

Word.

Hows the FBO search going Jason? What type of rental rates have you found in Cali? AZ is inflated from what I have seen.

Zuko,

I understand you are frustrated with your instructor, but just remember he is human and is not perfect. If he has alot of students it sometimes can be hard to juggle all of them. You also need to tell him that you want to fly and if he cant he needs to get you someone else that can. It wont make any instructor mad, it will make them mad however if you just up and leave. Also by going to ASU it may be great weather almost all year but I lived in the state next to AZ called NV and well most of the days it was clear but you also have alot more winds, high temps in summer, and sand storms. Remember everywhere you go is bad weather, it can be in nodak, NY, CA, and AZ. You just gotta tough it out and take it as is, and if you cant tough it out then maybe you should make a career change because this industry is not fair and is not forgiving. I am not saying that you should quit UND or your flying career but really think about the bigger picture.

I've nailed it down to a few places. I'm still considering going to ATP in Las Vegas for my CFI/II/MEI to do the "14 day" program, but I think I'd rather take 2-3 months to do it at my own pace Part 61 in San Diego...I have a job that consumes a lot of my time so the fast paced ATP program would be hard to do.

A $49/wet Cessna 152 rate option is highly appealing... plus a lot of flying club options are available with similar rates, along with hiring a freelance instructor.

Whichever way I decide to go, I will have my CFI/II/MEI by this August.

Jason,,, where do you find 49/hr wet? I havent seen anything that dirt cheap in Arizona. Dayum. Why would AZ be so much more expensive then CA? Maybe I am just looking in the wrong place. Are your career goals corporate?

I understand what you are saying Farva. I can tough anything out towards a goal as long as I see it as the right decision and the benefits of toughing it out. I am not some weak person who will just jump ship if a couple things do not go right. My decision didnt come over night. Its a lot of factors and I realized that I made a mistake a year ago. Even if I never got weathered, I think I would still have the desire to fly more. Especially in 221, when you only are scheduled to fly 2 times a week. I want flying to be more of a constant in my life. I learn better when I am actually doing something over and over again.

I left a lot behind at home because I thought i was coming here to fly all the time. It never really happened. I dont care for the breaks between semester. Id rather just be flying. And the pace could be much faster.

UND is a good school. I would say it is one of if not the best academies out there. But last semester, 10% of the students in most classes did not finish there flight lab on time.

I just cant see what the benefits would be of staying and toughing it out. Things will get better but I have learned that I just dont prefer the academy/141/university system of training. Constant breaks in training etc.

I will still post on this part of the forum. I like everyone here.

:nana2:

oh btw, UND aerospace just woke me up calling asking where I was when I hit the cone. And they said the prop seems fine.

The cone was split in half from a quick glance.

but what about the CONE???

I am still awaiting for my instructor to call. He said yesturday or today he would call to schedule. I called once tonight and no response. I am really annoyed with him. I am getting a new one already but he has to finish 13 I can do stage 14. But his schedule HAS NOOO ROOM. According to aims, the next time I can find open space is next thursday. THat would mean two weeks in between lessons after having a 3 week break. I have been soooo proactive with him.

Time to switch instructors or atleast go to your lead. They are there to help with this sort of thing.

boo, i wanted to hear something like the cone was flung 150 feet straight up in the air... hit a passing goose overhead.... then caught fire.....

something like that would have been way cooler.

i thought the major issue with a prop strike was the crankshaft and not the prop?

btw: your instructor sounds like an ass and couldn't give 2 ####s about you or your training IMHO. i had a few instructors like that and unfortunately they give people like me a bad name

well the two are connected (pun intended.)

ie - something nicks/alters the prop...thus it is now unbalanced....oscillations grow rapidly in intensity....crankshaft, engine is destroyed, and maybe flings pieces of it very far and fast? (ok the last part is a stretch but yeah, unbalanced forces are not something you want on a heavy spinning piece of metal!!)

i heard that it could cause a hairline crack in the crank which actually leads to the rest of your post

Well, I lost my patience last night waiting to hear from my instructor.

I called him and left a voicemail how in the start it seemed like he cared about my training and how he doesnt anymore. And basically went on and on about everything that I am upset with. I call his lead and basically leave the same message and such. My instructor calls me back and we basically get into it. We went back and fourth in circles and I felt like I shouldnt of allowed this to happen. He had an excuse for everything. Some of them were valid, some not imo. A lot of stuff wasnt in his control like him getting assigned a ton of new students. He never really owned up to not calling me back constantly or anything. He just kept saying he has a life outside und aerospace. And I was like well then why tell me your going to call at XXX and dont do it. We went on and on and on. He felt like I was trying to push the blame on him for me being so far behind. I told him that wasnt true and that I was upset with the amount I have been flying.

So today I get no call back from his lead or anyone. I called and left my instructor a message saying I have a scheduling question about me potentially dropping a class. He calls me back and I apologized for loosing my cool last night and temper. I told him that I dont want to be on bad terms with anyone. He told me that his lead called him into his office today and told him that he was finding me a new instructor ASAP and that he took out our launch for wesnesday because he is not my instructor anymore. He said I should be getting a call tommorow with my instructor.

I learned last night that pissing matches are not worth it. I should of called the red flag about him not calling me back a lot earlier rather then being Mr. Nice guy until I cant take it anymore in the end.

Yeah man, that really sucks...let us know how it works out. Getting a new instructor can be tough. Hopefully, your new instructor will have a more open schedule and will be willing to finish you up ASAP.

Wow. Jeremiah Anderson is awesome. He was my old instructors lead. He just called me saying that he found me a new flight instructor. My new instructor is actually crazy enough from my small suberb that I lived in, in washington. I had his younger brother in a couple classes of mine. Small world.

I should be getting going again. Now I just have to hope that I wont have to do a billon review flights.
