UUUUUGHHHHHH today was a huge mess

I am curious too. I figured it was in my blind spot because I literally couldnt see it. My only other explanation is that I remember the sun was in my eyes.

Would you complain to his lead about what happened today? Maybe even requesting someone else to do the 13? Or should I just move on get the 13 done and be done with the guy. What bothers me, is that I am likely going to have to wait till mid next week just to get it done because my instructor is sooo busy.

Why cant they just have a lead sign me off for the stage check or something.

I’m curious as to how this cone was in your blind spot some 20 feet away from where you started up? Taxing around from the back row on Charlie ramp can be tricky, but you just have to be careful (and Bravo ramp for that matter).

I don’t disagree that it was unprofessional of the instructor to have handled the situation the way that he did, but I’m glad that you voiced your intentions not to continue the flight.

I see. Thanks.

"Would you have stopped and at least inspected the prop after mowing over a cone"

I would have stopped because that cone's there for a reason. I'd want to know what else might I have hit or run over. With no RPM drop and no damage to the prop, I'd press on. And, no, I don't think a plastic cone would damage the smoothness of the leading edge of a prop.

I am still amazed neither of us ever saw the thing. I am not sure if its visible. I wish I could of taken the plane back to the same spot and seen what we could of done to seen it besides taking note to it when we taxied the plane.

I can tell you one thing though, it wont ever happen again for either of us. Likely the best way for either one of us to learn.

I just didnt like the way he handled it.

The only reason I am saying that its his fauilt is because I thought flight instructors were responsible for all actions there student takes. In reality, I guess it is both our responsibilities and we are both at fauilt, but legally his. I am just frusterated with everything that has gone on to delay my training. And I am not one just to take the easy way out and blame everyone else for things I do.

This is truly a unique occurrence. I normally like to survey the route I will be taxing before leaving my parking spot, and today I saw the cone towards the corner of Charlie with the copters. I asked my instructor if we had enough clearance, and he recommended doing a u-turn type of thing to travel away from that area and take the center line behind us rather than in front.

I'm a little worried that you think a flight instructor should be responsible for EVERY action a student takes--that's nearly impossible, not even mothers can do that. A CFI is merely there as a guide and teacher, but cannot take responsibility for everything you do, though they do have the final authority as PIC. The only person responsible for everything you do is yourself.

I'm sorry you feel like you're not flying enough, but you are going to a university, and one of the benefits of doing flight training here (because we all have an extra $40,000 to spend :sarcasm: ) is that you're earning a college degree in addition to your flight training. If you’re not interested in the academic side, or a degree, an FBO or even Embry Riddle (it's my understanding that they have more emphasis on aviation related classes...correct me if I'm wrong) would be the way to go.

But most unfortunate about today, and I'm sorry to hear that. You are right in insisting on your safety and inspecting the aircraft, way to go.

ZUKO... not saying you should leave UND or anything, but if you're doing 102 now this flight course is your last chance of being able to get out of UND if you want to. It just sounds like you are having a hard time here. I'd recommend you stick it out through 102 and see how things improve before deciding this though.

If you start 221 and go through 323, you are pretty much stuck and would have to continue all the way up to 325 to finally obtain your instrument rating you earned in 222 and your SE commercial you earned in 323.

You can exit the 141 program, but you'd have to spend a LOT of money to get into 61 or some other 141 program. You can get out of 61 easily, but you can't get out of 141 (usually).

No on Riddle, unless you have rich parents or don't mind being in $200,000 of debt.

A couple days ago I decided to go the FBO route after I get my private here. I applied to ASU to transfer and hopefully I get in. I got in in the fall but I am on academic probation here because I failed ground school last semester after getting a 75 on the final. (1 bloody point) I met a CFI on jetcareers here thats going to likely train me. I should be able to get all my ratings with in the next year and start instructing.

I really hope ASU doesnt deny me because of a performance in an aviation class. If they do, I will show them my grades after this semester, and then they will let me right in with the retake in ground school etc.

Unless you are somehow an AZ resident, i really hope you have rich parents. Out of state tuition for ASU is upwards of $20,000/year. Add that to flight costs and your lookin at a pretty lofty increase in tuition. Makes out of state tuition here look like nothing.

Sorry bro, but the title made me want to say "Na NANNA naaaah!"

Yeah but if I stayed at UND, I would be attending school for five years to get my finance degree. It is still an increase in tuition and my greatful that it seems like my parents are paying for it. If I can get school done in four years at ASU, its about a 13,000 increase.

Another thing: I do not think I currently qualify as a resident but I may be able to in the future. My family has a house there and I spend my summers there often. I worked at macys over christmas break so I have payed withholding taxes in the state. Im not sure if I could.

I went to high school NE of PHX in Fountain Hills. Alot of my buddies ended up at ASU and said the chicks go to class in their bikinis. Sounds rough.

Its true. My friend goes there. Its mostly in the summer time though. Most girls are blondes but absolute 10s.

Just remember, there's the Tempe of legend and the Tempe of reality.

There's a lot of nice looking women down there, but they're not exactly chomping at the bits for a mayun.

lol. I am taken already. 11 months and strong. Most of it being long distance.

As long as I can fly 5+ a week I will be happy and sexually satisfied. :nana2:

Just don't be a dork and use the "I'm a pilot!" line.

"Oh really? my boyfriend is an IP at Luke, are you there or at DM?"

Seen it happen. It wasn't pretty.

You know what I hate? When your flight instructor is suppose to call it but doesn't. Meanwhile you notice he updated both his myspace and facebook profiles. :banghead:

He is applying to become a ground school instructor for the A320 for NWA. Is that a good job doug? Do you actually get to log time in the a320?
