USA Today attacks General Aviation ... Again

PLN. Why we fly there in a CRJ, sometimes I wonder. It's bad enough that there's not even a hotel van. Just a beat up van that the keys are left in for the crew to drive THEMSELVES to the hotel. They leave the keys in it b/c no one in their right mind would steal the thing.

As for AEX. Hey! They just went from Saab service to and from MEM to CRJs. Sorry XJ. Looks like we're getting MLU next month, too. :(

It's a weird habit.

It's a paper we all complain about but I'll bet you more airline pilots have one stashed away in their flight kit that are willing to admit.

I prefer the IHT when I'm on the road overseas but something about colorful factoids, cheerful diagrams and small topical articles about important, complex issues just brings a little bit of synthetic sunshine when you're bored to death inflight.

And factoids.

I placed you as more of a New Times kind of reader.......:)

Umm.... Kinda.... ;)

Besides, great concert listings too. I like to know what the sangwich specials are down at the Cheeba Hut and when Miley Cyrus is coming back to town!

The IHT pretty much is the NY times now, since they booted the reprints from the Washington post.

If only John Q. Taxpayer had a clue how much of their hard-earned tax dollars are wasted on useless programs.

I'm aware of a few that I view as rather useless... and I'm scared stiff that they're only a tiny fraction of all the useless programs undertaken by the gubmint. Hrmmm... maybe I should open a government contracting firm.

Small businesses who are owned by women or minorities are golden. But, the process of contracting with Uncle Sam is a huge PITA!

The $39 a year I give AOPA is some of the best money I ever spend. I hate seeing articles like this, but I am sure AOPA is doing something about it.

It seems as though both articles were written by the ATC user fee lobbies.

The problem I see with articles like this is that they're written from the perspective of "Tell us the results you want and we'll come up with the research to support it." The other things that drive me nuts are the big numbers that are supposed to horrify you of the 'scale of wastage' the government is making. But they do try to bury the fact that that spending was over the course of 10 years, and don't even bother saying that that money was spent on thousands of airports across the nation over the course of ten years. It's so much easier for them to say something like "100 million spent on general aviation airports over 10 years" than it is to say "Airports have received an average of $500,000 a year" It's all about stirring up the pot of the uninformed.

But I'm a fair man. I am not on Welfare and I don't have children in my local school district. Please feel free to shift my tax dollars for those programs into supporting and improving small airports which I DO use. That's the kind of mentality that USAToday is catering to in those articles. "Why should I have to pay for an airport I don't use?"
