Sounds like the upgrade time at your company might be really good then!

Somewhere between 2 and 3 years.

Rumor has it there will be 20 captains retiring this year, and another 20 next year. Not to mention any that may quit in the next few months due to the base closures.

You should go to airlinepilotcentral.com and update the PDT upgrades times - currently it's listed as

"Most junior captain hired: May 2001"

I've updated stuff there before, it's pretty easy, and it keeps everyone informed and up to date.

Max - when "new hires" leave generally it doesn't effect upgrades too much - you need upper level movement like CA's quitting to get upgrades (as Turkey described).

What you guys do not realise they have a bonus rejection bonus - It is twice the amount of the originally bonus.

Oh yea my bad...so they have some serious retention issues then!

Ok, the exhausted follow up after trying to brave the spring break traffic and weather for standby through MSP and PHL... I GOT THE JOB!! I"m pretty excited - they actually want me to start March 27th!! So no 6 month hiring pool - 2 weeks notice! I am crossing my fingers I don't get anything in NY but we'll just see what happens. I wasn't educated on the concept of gate check in either and my luggage didn't make it for the interview (so no suit) but I did wear slacks and a tie while traveling non-rev and they showed some understanding through it all, doesn't sound like the first time. Hiring test is different but overall not too bad - not too stressful of an interview and the chief pilot seems to be a real down to earth guy. Time to go sleep then cram numbers for ground school! Probably won't be hearing from me for a while!

Congrats and welcome aboard!:nana2:

Those shareholders who are not board members would vehemently oppose him accepting such a bonus.

Shareholder accountability makes the $770k unattractive when his personal shareholding and his annual salary of x hundred thousand dollars would be far more secure by his declination.
(Their Vice Chairman's 2005 pre-bonus salary was $286k and the COO troubled their payroll department for $346k, pre-merger, post bankruptcies).

Another thing you have to consider is who authorised the press release?

US Airways stock (LCC) is pretty high (I believe...I'm not in to the stock market that much) for an airline. It closed today at $34.10, which is the highest of all airlines and groups. Time to start investing ;)

um....the cliche is "Buy low..." :sitaware:

and you can't really compare prices directly. Volume plays a role. you know what percentage of the company does a share represent? also the P/E.

Like I said, not real big in stocks. About all I know is Jim Cramer frantically yelling and pushing 10 buttons at once, which sounds a lot like someone screaming "Hallelujah, Hallelujah" as a bull moans.

Then do this. Put the money you want to put in stocks into an S&P 500 index, and forget about it.

Vanguard's index funds have expense ratios of less than half a percent.

Besides, remember, he says he doesn't know much about stocks. If you don't know much about stocks, that's the way to go. Low cost index funds!

Jim Cramer is an entertainment show and that's just about it!
