If you are hired into this position, you can't ever transfer over to dispatch. You can't go from management to union positions. You'd essentially have to quit and hope to be hired again into dispatch.

Is the pay good as opposed to a dispatcher? And I'm not asking for specifics, just a general idea.I was just stating that if you ever wanted to get into a union dispatch position that you couldn't from a management position. Yes, it is possible for an external applicant to be hired.
I know the way things are supposed to work but the way you worded your response makes it seem like being a dispatcher would be more desirable than a sector manager, coordinator, supervisor, etc....Is the pay good as opposed to a dispatcher? And I'm not asking for specifics, just a general idea.

Irrelevant. The job description implies that Flight Control Supervisors are dispatch qualified. Is that correct?

It is correct. They are qualified management personnel that sit a desk 4 times a year to stay current. They will cover shifts when needed when there are no dispatchers available.
Flying Saluki said:Thank you for that. Is it fair to say that the average line dispatcher at UPS is not interested in this position? If not, why not? I'm just asking because in my experience it's unusual to go outside the organization to fill a position like this. Or is the posting merely a formality?

Not to mention the koolaid you must drink in management, most union folks won't stoop to that level.I believe dispatchers make more money there than the supervisors...which is part of why nobody in dispatch ever puts in for these jobs.
