Unprecedented Movement at Southernjets

A lot of guys at my shop seem to not even make the jump to jetBlue. They top out here at 103K doing the bare minimum (75 hour guarantee). How much time would they have to put in at jetBlue to make what they're making? I'm assuming only a year or two and year one they can probably make as much if not more if they pick up stuff?

A buddy of mine is a 4th year 190 CA at JetBlue. He's on track to make nearly $300k this year. While it's true his pay rate wouldn't support that kind of earning power; it's very true that there's more to airline pay than pay rates and his situation is proof.

I'm a 6th year 320 CA at a low tier carrier...I'm not gonna get anywhere close to touching that (although it is being actively worked on to improve our situation).

hijack...

After Bendo's and Bob's podcast/letters lets hope its soon. I'm not holding my breath.
Airlineapps might get $60 from me when I get back.

Making the jump from a regional to mainline being a paycut means that someone can't do basic math.

Which is why they're still there. :)

I took a "pay cut" to go from CFI to Skyway Airlines. So glad I wasn't bitching about being a senior CFI, weekends off and all the multi I wanted and being able to drive to work. I'd probably be explaining to the customer that the "Meatcraft" poster at Arbys isn't something that is actually available, it's just a marketing photo.

How about 1st or second year FO? I'd imagine they'd clear what they top out at by year two. Or maybe my math isn't the best!

The hourly rates are only something to brag about online. It's all in the work rules.

You can give someone a 200% hourly pay raise and effectively cut their pay. I keep telling people that, but dey don hear me doh

<---FO 4 Life!

The fascination with 1st year pay by so many always perplexed me.

Many have missed the pot of gold at the end of the road because they were too busy staring at the puddle of water in front of them

Be realistic, he probably sold all his PTO (cashed out) in order to make that happen.

Work rules help. Working your ass off by selling vacation, personal time, sick games, etc, and displaying an arbitrarily high salary doesn't show the norm. It's the exception.

It's tough to give up those Moline and Dayton overnights.

Meh. The regionals have cute young FAs,the legacies have a bunch of dinosaurs. It's not all about the doll hair bills. [emoji41]

I took a pay cut to come from a regional to SJI. BUT I will make more money year 2 and beyond. Adjusting the monthly budget to the new pay wasn't the most fun but we understood that a short term sacrifice was worth it.

Anyone who says they can't afford the temporary pay cut is full of s#$@. But that's a great thing for everyone who wants to move on...one less person you're competing with.

Not sure if one can, conclusively, make this statement. I can think of cases where due to family/medical reasons, one simply cannot change what is their status quo at that moment (pay, schedule, and medical benefit).

Yet many of our "seasoned" pilots don't get that and only care about rates.

I bet it won't end up being a cut...

Yeah, life happens, but something about living below your means kind of comes into play here

How about cancer? Or some other serious illness that has aboslutely NOTHING to do with what the guy is making, rather, he needs his senior schedule to get the days he needs and the continued medical benefits without interruption/COBRA (BS) coverage. My point is you can't just look through a vacuum and say yup, anyone should be able to let go of 15-20+ yrs at regional and start at a legacy tomorrow like (*snap fingers*) that. Life doesn't work that way.
