Were an unbroken two decades of economic growth to take place, I think you’d be right. But that won’t happen. We’re due for a significant correction, and that resets the board. Demand will drop, schedules will be cut, and management gets a reprieve from labor economics reality once again.

15 years ago they spin off this "ExpressJet" with a nice Capacity purchase agreement of long duration which can be chipped away at about 50% through it's lifespan. Continental made nice coin on the IPO and proceeds to sell it's shares. You know how the rest goes...

Why do you think getting a union property on now or later when its already too late will matter? You're not going to get anything except status quo and job protection (discipline).And what do you think would happen if inc implemented a non friendly amendment without a vote? A union would be on property before you could blink. Right now it’s a perfect mix of good times, quick upgrades, and stability in a very turbulent time in the regional industry. Some will contradict what I’ve just said citing the newest contract. I say this: when times are good at your shop you tend to be easier to please. Bitterness != Testicular Fortitude

Negotiations will take years and then youll still never agree on section 3, 25 and either vacation or training or both until you go to an arbitrator and by then you'll have all left leaving a toothless set of new hires behind who knew the pay when they got in the company and won't be able to get anything except perhaps what you had before draconian cuts.
Lets face it, the majority of skywest pilots are happy, for whatever reason, and even if you got a union after some sort of weird management betrayal after 2-5 years you'd only get back what you had.
