Good Luck to those going to the ORD open house this week. Let us know how it went.
I'll be getting in real early to ORD for the morning of the 13th meeting. I'm game for meeting up for lunch but I don't intend to stay overnight.Speaking of.....
How about we put together a mini-meet and greet for it? Folks on 13/14, and/or traveling thru?
Maybe a thread or PM list to get everyone together?
I'll be flying up early the 13th, arriving ORD by 8am. My meeting is on the 14th.
Wasn't bad. It is around 12.50+tipAnyone in the 14th afternoon group want to split a cab?

I will gladly answer this question tomorrow. I have a splitting headache unfortunately right now.How was the open house?
How was the open house?
The open house was very well put together with very good information on United. They put me at ease right away with a very relaxed environment. The resume assistance was very helpful. There is a point system, they didn't divulge what the magic point number is...basically if you have a good GPA from a college they recognize, internal recommendations, check airman, etc the more points you get. Hit the magic number and it is your turn to get called. I got a lot out of the event. I really appreciate the time and effort all involved put into it in order to pull of an outstanding event. A big thanks to all who helped make it happen!
(@Maurus great meeting you!)

Do you get points for going to the event? Ive heard it helps.
Did they take/keep resumes?
How long were you there from start to finish?

So, how many people wore suits?
They kept one copy of my resume. (Thanks to @HRDiva for helping get that refined!)
I would imagine the event would add to your point value.
None. A couple of sport jackets (no tie) and one guy in uniform.
Some more stuff. The point system does look at your flight times exactly like their pilot requirements page says. Quantity, quality, complexity of aircraft flown (type ratings at such), etc. They don't care where you got your time. That means my cargo time and the aircraft I flew in cargo do actually make a difference (big relief). However, this may also mean that some people that have done the typical C172>Seminole>Regional route may need to make up points in a different way since they only have flown a few different planes.
Just like with what @Derg has been saying about Delta, make sure your Airlines apps is updated and more important complete! The United recruiters said that they continually reject applications that would have otherwise been given interviews because people haven't put their first class medical, passport, radio permit, into the system or they are expired.
LORs will have different points attributed to them. It sounds like a normal line pilot's LOR won't have the same point value as a check airman or higher LOR. Also the context is something that needs looked at. They don't care how well you can fly a plane. They already know you can fly. They want other info such as work ethic and personality stuff.
Don't forget. Every flight you work may be a networking opportunity. Management does fly on our aircraft and do notice our good or bad customer service. Ranting on about how bad X mainline partner is (and likely even your own management) certainly won't make you any friends. Provide a good product and they will notice. That high profile LOR could be a flight away.
I'll admit that I learned something interesting about the career fairs. They don't like the for-profit career fairs (FAPA. Aero and such). The recruiter I talked to said to avoid those fairs and go to the WIA and OBAP type of fairs since they are good organizations and the money actually goes toward something productive. This may explain why FAPA's next career fair has no major Airlines attending as of right now.
Thanks to United Airlines, The United MEC, the FFD guys at ALPA National and the United pilots at the event for making this event happen. Hopefully it catches on in the industry!
Also good meeting you @TowJoe. Thanks for the lift back to the airport! Also you still need to come to NJC!
