United q400 RFP

Just from on this side of things, I think it'll probably come down to how Horizon's upcoming pay arbitration that starts next week. Company wins, we take a 5% pay cut (yes, even with the company making record profits for this year). If we win, we get an increase of 2.8% for Captains and FO's for first year and an additional 1.2% increase for FO's in year 2.

Word is we're in the running, having operational experience in DEN, RNP/CATIII Certification and 10 options for this year...but, until a plane is parked in DEN ready to go, it's anybody's guess.

Apparently Sapa and skywest management were at the table today negotiating a pay rate. Also it has been proven fact now that skywest submitted a bid for this rfp using 200 rates as the pay rates for the q400 even though the pilot group and sapa haven't negotiated a new pay rate yet.
UAL doesnt give a rats rear what SKYW pays their pilots on any equipment(despite what some mgmt will tell you). SKYW simply states to UAL, "it will cost you $$$ for us to provide this feed for you". At this point, with the size of our company, pilot pay on a Q400 being $5-$10 more or less doesn't make any difference. That extra few bucks that SGU is is trying to squeeze out of your pocket is chip aways bonus. I'm not kidding either.

Most of you Sapa haters are clueless. The guys who are in Sapa are mostly pro Alpa and anything but management goons. You dorks do realize that there are zillions of written contracts on earth that don't require a certified union to be valid in court? Just because a certified union isn't on one end of the deal doesn't mean a companies management wants to go to court over a signed valid written contract. Plenty of bottom barrel crapholes like Colgan and Mesa prove without a doubt that a union is not the end all.

I am pro ALPA and I am also impressed with what SAPA does with what it has.

SAPA has been extrememly effective with MM at the helm the last few years. It is not like years past when that sell out pilot that was an attorney(I won't name him) gave everything mgmt wanted so he could be mgmt. That guy barely shows his face anywhere these days.

No one is saying they are management goons. But at the end of the day SAPA has no money or lawyers to fight anything the companies does. So yes they have a written contract but have no real way to enforce it.

Your reasoning assumes there is a need to fight the company in court. Thus far, we have been able to iron out everything with the company. Just because the company says no to sapa on something, doesn't mean you should go to court over it. The company doesn't have to agree to anything with ALPA either. It's what you can negotiate.

In years past, the company was justified in firing some idiot pilots making the rest of us look bad. It seems that there have been a lot less problems in the company lately now that those guys are gone. We've signed NDA's so I can't comment on what they did in the past. During our huge expansion phase, we had a few "problem childs" slip through the cracks.

This is a classic mgmt trick. Telling the pilots they need to negotiate a pay rate for RFP and then during the negotiations they will continue to say "With those rates, we can never compete to get that new flying. You want new flying dont you? We need to be competitive with our wages in order to secure this flying....you want new flying? Right?
