Every few years we see a PR release where the FAA investigates those that have VA-D and hem 'em up as "an example". Not sure how many still do this, but...

When I got out in ‘04, I went to the VA due to some injuries that happened while on the ship. I was told no problem, we can get you 10% disability. I laughed and said I don’t need that, I just want it documented. I haven’t been back to the VA since, except to request a healthcare card so I can access the bases MWR facilities. I’m “technically 0% disabled” and I’m happy with that. No money from them, but access to the VA healthcare system if I ever need it. At one point, they told me I made too much money to qualify for healthcare, but that changed a few years ago. Hopefully they don’t backtrack on that.

The biggest problem there wasn’t the fact of one having a VA-D; but it was the fact of one having a VA-D, yet not reporting such or answering “no” on the FAA medical where this is specifically asked.l about And if answering yes, detail on what the VA-D is. This is what was getting pilots hemmed up, and rightfully so, especially after checking the box at the end of the MedX or “I attest that the answers given are true….” Pilots who reported VA-D and the details of them on their FAA medicals, I don’t personally know of any who got in any trouble. Might have happened, I just don’t know of any that did.

That makes sense. According to their mailing, they hit 7000 ejections in 2003.

They didn’t reach 2000 ejections until 1968, so I don’t know how they assign numbers. I will try to find out and report back.

This is what I actually do need to eventually get done. I think mostly for tracking purposes in the future.
