United Kicks Off Couple

Passenger acting up: daily

Airline removes passenger for acting up: two weeks of news if they've got their camera phone running.

I had a guy arrested as he deplaned but I can assure you he doesn't want media attention. :)

Anybody who has worked retail knows exactly how ridiculous someone can be who gets it in their head that they are a paying customer and as a result can treat you like crap however badly they want.

Yesterday we had someone get irate because we wanted to gate check her bag since it wouldn't fit in the overhead, I did eventually get it to fit. Then she again started abusing the FA over not being able to put her second carry-on in the overhead with her first one.

She paid 900$ for this flight! she deserves to be comfortable! She doesn't have to follow the rules, she paid 900$

I didn't have the heart to tell her how many tens of thousands of dollars I paid for my seat and I still have to follow the rules ;)

Why do people get so miffed about their bag being gate checked? It's not like it's being left behind; it will be there in the jetway shortly after they deplane.

I'm not sure if my fear is grounded in reality, but I carry-on some pretty expensive camera gear whenever I go places and I'm not worried about it getting lost or stolen, but going into an unpressurized part of the airplane I'm worried might damage the electronics and/or the glass in the lenses.

Pack them in a case small enough to fit in an RJ overhead or buy a seat for them, we can't change the laws of physics.

I feel the same way for the most part. But as a pilot I see a lot of stations that are just plain slow. And if a passenger has a connection it could add a little extra stress

It's a system they don't inherently understand and their friend told that that one time their aunt's friend etc. etc.

Then don't schedule a connection that's only 25 minutes when you have to go from A terminal to D terminal.

Let's just be Alexandrian about this and cut the Gordian Knot with a simple, swift stroke. Two classes: "Human" and 'Steerage". Human class gets FAs, seatbelts, and snacks. Meals that can be attempted to be believed to be composed of organic matter if the flight is more than 3 hours. Steerage gets the back part of the fuselage, an impregnable plug door, and some extremely comfortable and fluid-absorbtive straw (refreshed at each turn, for your comfort).

There are airlines that still offer meals that you don't pay for? And I mean that question in a domestic sense.....

I check all my stuff...as in check it at the ticket counter. Can't remember the last time I've not received it in baggage claim. But I do laugh at people who are struggling to fit their body bag sized "carry ons" into the overhead bins during boarding. Contrast that with my thoughts of electric chairs or lethal injection for all of them when it comes to deplaning. That you have to walk against offload traffic to get from the back of the plane. Yes, f*** you. Americans are most embarrassing in self serving environments like airline travel and on the road.

Are there cargo bins that aren't pressurized? I'd guess 99% of peoples checked toiletry kits would be exploding of that was the case.

I'd be more worried about it getting crushed/dropped/rained on etc.

I think a lot of people keep their most valued possessions in their carry on and other items that they'd prefer not to check as things have gone missing in checked bags (likely TSA as they had a reputation from this years ago), bags do get lost now and then, bags can be exposed to the elements while they're loading them (My checked bags have been wet on rainy days without any liquid spilling from the inside), and they can get manhandled or caught in a conveyor belt. I think the passengers can have legitimate concerns.

Good gravy, you can't win with some people.

"^#*!+=|> airline wants to charge me $20 to check a bag! Eeevulll corp'rations! NAI/ME3 now!"
"Sir, we'll check your bag through to the next destination for free"
"5);@)@0/( airlines never have any overhead bin space, the rampers are gonna smash my vintage precious moments figurines I packed special in my carry on!"

Like seriously, there are realities of air travel and two of those things are limited overhead space and rampers that throw luggage around. You can rage against the system and take a few years off your heart due to blood pressure, or you could be an adult and pack your • appropriately.

*edit* no, mr. jobs, I have never meant to type the word "tampers"

Is someone in here raging? I only provided examples of why people prefer not to gate check their belongings in response to someone who asked a question.

I can see the concern. I can only say that for myself, anything high dollar or important....iPad, phone accessories, any important paperwork etc.....always is in a carry on that fits underneath the seat, normally along with a quick change of clothes in that one personal bag. The actual separate carry on suitcase I have always fits in an overhead bin, but in case it doesn't or there isn't room, that carry on will have nothing critically important in it that would/could be harmed by gate checking. Just a little preplanning which has served me well so far in terms of worrying about important items or not.
